heard the same thing but hard to believe since his reason for coming down to central was because his inability to coach effectively at alex. surely they would remember him saying that and his leaving right before the start of season. i remember all the turmoil on tbr. but, if he goes who would be a great fit for central. they have a great chance of going to raleigh next year.

    Top Assistant

If in fact Coach Sherrill leaves for Alexander County, Central Cabarrass will be in very good hands if the administration is not stuck with having to have a teacher take this position. Sherrill's assistant will be able to take this team and not miss a beat. Great motivater and teacher of the game.

    Good ???

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought in the state of N.C. you had to at least be a school employee to coach....Me and another parent wanted to coach our high school and we were told that we couldn't because we were not on staff...I hope that C.B. can coach C.C. then it will open the door for me and others....:feedback:

not a state rule but prolly a local one in your area though.

many reasons not to have daddys coach hs ball.

I don't think it is a state rule but most schools want their teachers as a coach. Kind of stupid but that is they way it is. They would rather have an unquailfied teacher coach than a good coach. That is why you see so many bad high school coaches and is the one thing holding back the high school program. Think about it most (but not all) of the people who go to college to get a teaching degree weren't the ones who excelled or even played sports but they get a degree to teach math, science, engilsh ect. and are automatically a better "qualified" coach than someone who played sports all their life but do something other than teach school. Go figure

    State Rule

I believe the state rule is to be a VARSITY coach, you must be a certified teacher with a degree. You can teach at any school in the county you are attempting to coach in.

You can assist or be a JV coach without a degree.

    Teaching/coaching

It is not a state rule, but a lot of individual school may have added it to their requirements. Some schools cannot find enough coaches because of their policies and you are right, you do get some bad coaches because there is no one else that wants the job. On the other hand, teachers are somewhat controlled by their bosses and school adminstration in which they are in contact with everyday whereas someone off the street is not so much. With the crazies we have in todays world who knows what might happen. I think those that have it as their policy do so for a safety reason. Would you want you son/daughter going off to a game or to practice everyday with a drunk or even a child molester?? No offense to anyone, just an example of why some schools do that. McDowell on the other hand for example had 4-6 varsity coaches this year not on staff.
