My DD plays D1 softball. You are so right about the commitement. Her workout schedule for the summer includes weight lifting, conditioning, pitching, hitting and fielding. Every single day of the summer. When they return to class in the fall they have timed miles and weight limits and conditioning levels they have to meet. It is a job to play college softball and juggle your grades. Played 65 games and finished with 5 a"s and 1 B. Very stressful. So you can see their is very little free time.

    D1 is not only option...

Yes it is tough at the D1 level but D1 is not the only option. I for one am glad my DD chose her college for the college first, yes, she is attending college on a softball scholarship, but we wanted to make sure to tell her to choose the college she would be happy at, for 4 years not the softball team she thought she might want to play on! Education is first! In other words choose the college you want to attend, even if you never play a game of softball! D1 is just one of the choices there are a lot of GREAT colleges out there that are not D1 schools. An education is an education doesn't matter where it came from! I mean maybe if you want to be a doctor or lawyer, yes! Yes my DD had D1 schools talking to her, she just decided that a different road was better for her! We are very proud of her and the college she chose is extremely happy to be getting her!

    totally agree

totally agree with softball4ever I hear so many seniors comment on senior day I want to go to college & play softball, no mention of major they might want to undertake you can attend some good d1,d2. d3 even JC schools but lets face it how many young ladies get to go to higher levels after college. question is does she want to be a little fish in a big pond or big fish in little pond she should attend a school that she will be happy at that will give her a good education and softball should be a bonus and have fun not a job

Go ahead and transfer to that "powerhouse" hs program. Just be aware....that "powerhouse" grass might not be as green as you think.
Who else might have the same idea...can you stand the possible compitition?:12:

What about scouting services (such as NSR) that charge fees to find a place for DD to play. Are they worth the money they charge? Does anyone have comments or recommendations about them? Are they necessary if DD plays for a "powerhouse" (HS or TB)?

i could go into great detail about recruiting services, but i'll bite my lip. basically, anything that they do, you can do yourself with a little bit of elbow grease and save yourself about $1000 to $3000. I dont think we need to get on this discussion as it will go negative real fast. it may be time to bring out the ole thread about how to get the attention of the college coaches your dd wants to attend. quite easy actually.

I tend to agree with Cheese. But dont take what anyone has to say it is your decision. If you want to know about Recruiting services I think the best thing to do would be to contact a few college coaches and ask their opinion of them.
