    Matt Spencer?

Braves, I don't follow the heels, but TV mentioned today a player at Ariz State - Matt Spencer - that had transferred from UNC . What position did he play at UNC ? Apparently he saw a lot of action at UNC? He's ASU's 3rd leading hitter in BA at .383.

I used to be an ABC guy but I have mellowed. unc has a good program, no doubt about that. And Fox knows how to recruit players and coaches. I respect them but I don't have to like them.

Spencer was always a player that showed a lot of potential. He seemed a little upset as a freshman with his playing time and voiced it. His soph year he started with a bang...then a bust. Seth Williams came back strong, Cavasinni was a sparkplug and Cox was All ACC. With Flack coming off a great year and Fronk moving to the OF, Matt probably thought he wouldn't get much playing time this year, so he transferred. I'm glad that it has worked out for him...he is a good hitter.

    sit out?

I think I'm right on this......under new NCAA reg's, you will have to sit out a year to transfer to another D1 like in football & basketball.

Yep...and in my opinion totally unfair to partial scholarship students.

I hate to say it, but I don't think it matters. Louisville is going to win this bracket. They gave away the game to Rice. They're sick.

Sorry, but we disagree on this one. It doesn't start for a year or so but I am totally in favor of kids sitting out a year who transfer. A commitment is a 2-way street. 1st sign of tough times and kids pack up and run. I don't like that or what it teaches. A full ride in baseball is seldom the case however with this rule change is also a change that schools have to offer a minimum % of projected costs. No more of these schools that cost 30K a year offering 1500.00 dollars. It was my understanding that a school has to offer approx. 30% but I could be wrong on that. Maybe one of the coaches here can give the specifics.

    NCAA Rule Changes

I believe this is still accurate.

The NCAA’s Board of Directors adopted four rule changes designed to improve college baseball’s APR. Beginning in 2008-09, athletes must be eligible in the fall semester to compete in the spring semester. They won’t be able to transfer between schools without sitting out a season (as football and basketball players already do). Teams’ roster sizes will be limited to 35 players, with only 27 receiving scholarships. And, most importantly, each scholarship player must receive at least 33 percent of a full scholarship, dramatically changing how college baseball programs divide the 11.7 scholarships currently allotted to them by the NCAA.

I believe that the number of scholarships can be reduced if the program doesn't meet certain academic criteria. Coaches have to have a law degree to keep up with all these rules!
