    No other matches ASA...

ASA tournaments are the best, all-around, for several reasons, IMO,
    Quality of tournaments
Quality of Umpires (knowledge of rules)
    Quality of competetion

ASA has been slack in NC

I agree with you. My only concern about ASA is the lack of local tournaments in NC. In the recent past our team had to chase berths all the way to atlanta. Has there been a substantial change in our direction?

    ASA Qualifiers

NCASA has a good selection of tournaments that are being held. They are invitationals though.
ASA Qualifiers and berths are based on the number of teams registered. ASA holds a true national tournament in each age division, unlike some, that will take a team into a "World" tournament if you play a certain amount of tournaments with them throughout the summer.
It's not that NC ASA has been slack so much as they have been "out advertised". We are in Akron, OH at this moment trying to win a berth to the ASA 18U National tournament. It ain't an easy road. That's why it is still the most prestigous of all the sanctioning bodies. It takes more than paying an entry fee to attend The ASA National Tournament.

    I will say...

I will say that NSA has improved some in the past couple of years!
I think NSA is (or has been) better suited to the younger players! (8, 10, & 12, & 14U)
ASA is better suited for the older players! (16 & 18U)
In NSA, I think, there is still a little bit of favoritism shown toward certain teams, and such going on, and the umpires still have a ways to go, to catch up on knowledge of the rules, and professionalism! There are more NSA tournaments around this area, but they aren't the top of the line, quality, speaking! They could get there! IMO they (NSA) should do a little more showcase tournaments to benefit the older players age groups.

USSSA tournaments are not there and I'm not sure they will ever catch up or that they want to catch up!

AAU must have been under the OTHER option, on the pole, has it probably should be (softball speaking anyway)!

How did it go in Ohio? I hope you got a berth out of it!

The best tournament now has got to be the State Games. First class teams playing in a state-of-the-art softball STADIUM. Full untimed seven inning games. Competent officials. Large crowds. The infield drug, relined, and watered before EVERY game. A professional sports-med. trainer on duty throughout the entire 4 day event. College level softball being played by a bunch of North Carolina high school kids! VERY exciting softball.

The only thing that could make it better would be for it to not conflict with a big TB showcase and for ALL high school coaches to promote it.

A elderly gentleman told me at the concession stand in Siler City this weekend-"If you want to move on up the ladder & be seen, go ASA, but if you just want to play go with the others." Said he'd coached for many years & that was the way to go.

    OHIO QUALIFIER

We played really well but came up a short of our goal.
We finished 3rd to the Valley Sting and Gran Slam (last years #3 in the 18U National). We wound up 6-2 overall.
Unfortunately all the out of state teams saw a little "home cooking" with the umpiring. From talking with some other coaches this is pretty much the norm when you go out of your region to qualify. Thanks for asking chachacha.
