Just to pass an update along; many may already know this.
Sarah Jackson, pitcher (of Clayton, Johnston County) is not continuing her softball career at the college level. Recent newspaper article indicates she will attend ECU on academic scholarships, but not play softball.

I don't have the article here to link, but it mostly indicated she was just ready to focus on her academics without the time and commitment involved w/ playing a college sport. She is 3rd on the all-time strikeout list in NC, and is among the tops in many other pitching categories.

    it happens

it happens east, my dd chose not to play college for her own reasons, and after her first year (and a lot of tears by me) i believe she made the right choice. she made the deans list and is totally focused on her education and determined to get out of college asap, even taking summer classes. sometimes those 1200-1500 games they play in their careers makes the choice of playing in college a little harder to swallow.

She was a great pitcher..even better in the classroom

Great pitcher that the game will miss...Outstanding student..

She received the ECU equivalent of the Park or Morehead scholarships.

    That's a Home Run.............

    Agree 100%

If a kid does not have absolute passion for the game then getting paid to study is far better than getting paid to play!

    Studying and Playing

Absolutely. In fact, NCAA rules are now more restrictive than most universities. That is its entirely possible to be a student in good standing (albeit not a very good one) and not be eligible to play. The life of D1 student/athlete is extremely difficult. One skill I see many college students prefect is wasting time . . . not something athletes have time for at all!
