Is SCHS recruiting from other schools?

Just wondering if South Caldwell is recruiting? I heard that Travis Cook (pitcher from Gamewell) has transferred to SCHS. From what I understand SCHS is not taking any out of district students. Is it because he plays baseball?

 

Sensitive subject around here. There's always more to the situation than one knows. Probably nothing to it. just another kid transferring.

Transfers are approved at the county level (administration) ... not at the high school.

Anytime an athlete decides to attend another school people always say they were recruited away. Don't blame the coaches because they have successful programs. It is very easy and common for other coaches to place the blame with the "other" coach, but sometimes, folks, it is merely the parents and the young person making a decision.

I don't think that it is unfathomable for any young man to want to play baseball at South Caldwell. Unfortunately, there will always be people who believe and spread rumors that it was the coach that did it.

yes I am finding out that there are parents in this "day and age" that will actually move their residence in order to achieve a better situation for HS sports. things have changed.

 

Independence?

This sounds just like our beloved Independence HS Football Program. Is it 109 in a row now? Kids just keep showing up there to play football. A few years ago (while they were routing a team from Fayetteville in the playoffs 52-12) I was talking with one of the IHS Dads. He told me that 17 of the players (many key players) were out of the schools zone but had gotten in at Independence somehow?

I doubt it's the coaches and I really doubt it's the coaches at South Caldwell. They have built an excellent program and people want to associate with it. I guess you can't blame them for wanting the best school and sports for their children.

 

The best "recruiting" tool is a good program. Kids will change districts or whatever if they can play for a good program.

 

Some coaches do recruit, though. It's tough to prove and they're rarely stupid enough to be overt and get caught, but it happens. That said, I agree that people too often assume it happened when a kid changes schools.

 

Players are going to always want to play for the team that is the winner. It's just natural to want to be there instead of getting beat badly by them. Also, it makes sense that they will be seen more by college and pro scouts and play farther into the playoffs.

This has been going on forever. I played at Glenn HS but lived in the carver school district and drove right past east forsyth everyday for three years. I wasn't the first or last player to make sure I got to play for Glenn back in the early mid 90's. But the one thing I can promise you is it was my and my father's idea and desire to do this. The coach had nothing to do with this. As I am sure S caldwell's coach isn't doing the dirty work the players and their parents are.

E. rutherford had a few key guys transfer in last year. I know charlotte has this happen all the time. If I had a son I would want to make sure he had the best high school coach and team possible.

At the baseball rules meeting yesterday at the NCCA Convention in Greensboro, the question of recruiting came up from a HS coach. Any burden of proof in a recruiting accusation has to come from the accuser, so unless you have a tape recording, or secret photos from the paparazzi how will you prove it? olefty is rightparents will do things to ensure their kids play for a winner, and some coaches will actively recruit, that's just the way it is. In the day of open enrollment and "schools of choice" in our education system it is a fact of life (like it or not, which I particularly dont). As a result we take the hands that are dealt to us and try to do the best we can in teaching the game, but more importantly, teaching about life.
