    Loyalty to what?

First time posting here so if I offend anyone please accept apology upfront.

    Some random thoughts:

We have academic school of choice programs that allow kids to transfer to a program that better fits their possible future career interests. It is very competitive to get into these programs. Now Im not saying that these programs will only accept the most academically gifted students. But you have to want to work to get in and stay in them.

Could the school of choice argument be made for athletic programs?

    Athletics is a career option.

Hope this is making some kind of since.

This years senior class at East Rutherford will be the 7th consecutive that graduating seniors leave with at least 1 championship ring. Independence football is of course the benchmark. Sometimes kids that put their sport as a high priority in their life want to play with others who feel the same way, and their families are willing to move to support them. It is hard sometimes to be "loyal" to a program when most of the other kids just aren't as serious as you are. I think if the move is a legal transfer and they were not contacted by others schools coaches then there is nothing wrong with a family making such a decision.

I heard that they recruited Madison from Ethiopia...enticed him with a 2005 Range Rover (at the time the newest model) and a nice seafood dinner. :laugh3:

    respect but

Coach, I really respect your posts and I understand and agree on this issue to a certain extent. The part I have to ask about is "moving". I know that apparently counties have different policies on transferring. But how do you "move" a kid? I am assuming the whole family moves? That's such a drastic life change. If it were to involve something like a temporary residence, then I don't know.

If a father or mother say gets a job change and can choose which school their kids will attend due to the family relocation and therefore choose where they will live based on HS sports, then OK. Some of the shady scenarios out there, I just can't say is what we should be promoting to our future leaders.

It would. But the fact that of the many that start few make the grade. Every year there are more doctors, lawyers and others that graduate than drafted. Sports are a passion. It is true that all players want to be a part of a great program. But the other side of the coin is that great players are a part of a great team. The team does not make great players. Good examples are the Yankees, great players, large payroll but could not win WS. I would love to see how many major players played on a state champion team in high school, college or even summer league. It would be some great info.:policeman:

My mother lives in the school district of one of the programs I talked about. She lives alone and really wanted him to come stay with her as well. I was not going to move my family and my other son and leave our baseball program. I left the decision up to him like I stated earlier.

I can tell you this a kid that takes his sport seriously and wants to play at the highest level possible wants to play with players that are like minded, and have the same work ethic. It is really tough on a kid that finds himself in a situation with other kids that frankly do not have the desire to achieve at the same level. If your son was in an academic situation that did not challenge him and you felt it was a hinderance to his academic development would you feel compelled to move him? To the serious baseball player it is the same kind of situation. I do not fault kids for wanted to get the best instruction , coaching and HS experience they can get. If the situation they are in is one of poor coaching , no players that want to work and get better I just can not blame kids for wanting to better their situation if they choose to do so.

As long as the move is within the legal rules allowed. This is just my opinion I respect everyones view on this. Again as long as your in a program that works hard , the coaches work hard and their is a true desire to be the best you can be I see no reason anyone would feel the need to move. But to each his own.
