I think CanAmMan went easy on the Dixie Man...

....it could have been alot worse. Fact is folks, the Dixie league is good for kids and families to get together locally. No slander as for that. But to entertain the idea that TB is in any shape, fashion, or form, related to What their game is like, amounts to comparing Derek Jeter to a 40+ out of shape slowpitch player who is still blaming his HS coach for not helping him with playing time....which is the reason he's not on the Yankee roster. Whew! If they only knew!

stick to the basics, Dixie Softball and dont ride coattails. discovering your role in the whole concept of NC Softball should be discussed on a beach instead of a lake in stanly county!:sifone: complaining, whining and criticizing??????????

note: have friends in that area and mean no disrespect but they KNOW this and where i'm coming from!!!

great starter program if thats all that available!! Thanks to those who work or have worked with Dixie Softball in getting our girls interested in Softball!

    TB Rocksss

Dixie Softball has it's place, it was a wonderful stepping stone for my daughter in past years. She was allstars every year, went to 5 state tournaments, and 2 World Series' in Louisiana. She, and we, enjoyed every minute of it, but the reality of it is that there is no comparison with TB in the talent and competitive department. Everyone involved knows that there is always a lot of politics involved in who gets picked for allstars and every year I would cringe at some of the talented girls who would get left out. If Mr. Evans had his way, then thousands of girls would be left to lay around all summer and become couch potatoes. This is my daughters first year of travel ball and her first comment after her first tournament was "wow, now I know what it's like to be on a team where everybody cares about winning". Let's face it, community ball is "pay to play" and TB is hand picking talented girls who have a passion to play hard and often. I would have to conclude that Mr. Evans falls into the same group that said "the internet would never amount to anything".....ha.

I understand the discussion here on both sides having DD's playing with division. My concern is if Dixie Youth is so much less talent, then why do the travel teams jump back into Dixie Youth tournaments. Each year you will have a group of girls that play on a travel team win the tournaments. This is also true in Little League baseball. I would not knock the local leagues, it is very good for alot of kids who cannot afford the TB scene. So let's not downgrade the local city leagues.

    here's a side of this

While I agree that such a letter serves little purpose, I can sympathize to an extent w/ the writer's feelings. If you've ever served as a coach and organizer of local community / county softball rec leagues and then participating in selecting an all-star team to best represent your community or league, then you may at least know about the feelings. Year after year seeing the gradual but steady exodus of talented girls to TB, knowing it would lessen your local community's (or county's) chances to advance to district , state, , regional , national levels. You sort of get the feeling that those girls leaving the local league are "shunning" or abandoning their home community or county league. What you dream of doing is putting together the best of the best from your area to best represent your area (you know that local pride thing!).
(& in our case it always made it worse to always see Pitt County somehow keep their best together in rec all-stars as a unit to advance as mentioned to higher levels....................) still don't quite know how they did that????...............

anyway, this really bothered me as a young coach in the early years, but later and later I came to accept it much better..... oh well. and now it doesn't matter at all to me.

    have fun wherever you play.

    not all cases...

My daughters have not shunned anyone. They play HS, MS, rec and travel ball. They are very involved in our community softball programs. My irritation was about a letter that basically attacked TB. I will tell you this....out of all leagues my DD's have played for, TB has pushed them to excel at a level that I feel confident they would not have, had they never been involved in TB. Not knockin' anyone else's league, just defending TB. JMO, thanks.

EOR- I don't think anybody had trouble with the intent of the message. It was with the delivery. "destroyed by the travel ball idiots of the world." This along with a couple of other shots will definately cause a reaction.

Your point about community pride, while certainly a noble one, left with the "mood rings". It's about doing what's best for your DD. The quicker one comes to realizing that priority, the easier it is to accept.

One could argue the pro/cons of TB vs Rec ball all day long. But the bottom line is parents are going to do what is best for their child. They only get to experience these times with their daughter once.
