We're starting to go down a different path. Another thread on kids playing multiple sports could lead to some interesting conversation.

That's why you are a special coach. You are always looking for ways to get better and you have always believed you can learn something from others...whether they were good points or bad points.

    One scenario.....

    Heres a scenario.
Before the school year even begins, Coach Joeball is approached about helping with a summer showcase team by a group of very involved parents. He agrees to help and they use the HS field to practice. Maybe he gets paid, maybe he does it for the love of baseball. He goes to tryouts, and helps select the team .He helps at their practices, During the HS season the players he helped select for the summer showcase team play over others, and play for varsity in tournaments and playoffs..
There is definitely resentment , division and frustration among players..Parents see it, parents from other teams see it , the players know it. In the end, parents in the stands barely speak to each other.:cuss: After the season is over, several frustrated players decide to go play for private schools. The summer goes on and the showcase team does well. They even brought in other players from the HS team to play in some of the showcase games.
All of this may be with in the guidelines of HS and showcase coaching, but in the end, we were glad not to have been involved in either one of these teams. But this is why I ask, should coaches help with summer showcase teams. It simlpy creates a conflict of interest .Their first priority should be to every player on his HS team. The last thing a coach needs to do is put himself in a situation that breeds contempt among his teammates.
What happens in cases such as this one to the HS team and for those who want to play for this HS team ? Alot of people are asking this question.
    Well... back to work.

We have this exact situation right now, without the part about kids going to private school. Kids that used to be friends hardly speak. It's a tough situation for coaches to manage. The coach just wants to coach kids and maybe make a little pocket change. maybe network some. I can't really blame the coach.
