Moorehead is the best team but they are some really good teams in this tournament Cherryville could make a run.

I agree, but I'm afraid if I post my upset picks, the only person that will be upset will be me.....with hateful PM's.

    Invisable Durham

Cherryville scored six of nine runs yesterday unearned. Today, Chisenhall was unbeatable? Whoever loses between Caldwell and Garner will have a Cake walk versus lowly Durham:bigear: !

    Durham

It true everyone has drastically under estimated Durham. They very well could be the guys going to regionals. Yet no one mentions them at all.

    it's anyones

I wouldn't take it personally. Everyone tries to figure out who the BEST team is. Morehead and Randolph were the first two teams gone. Do you believe for one minute that every team left today is a better team than both of those?? IMO, the only way to figure it out is to continue with the 5 to 7 games series all the way through the championship. Anything can happen in any single game. It rarely does over the course of 5 to 7 games.

I've said all along that the double elim tournament (while its fun), you get one-game upsets and the best team don't always wind up as champion. There is a reason MLB has series play, because in a series the best team "usually" comes out on top, because its difficult to pull an upset 4 out of 7 nights. As I write this, I just thought about the College World Series (8-team tourney) in Omaha, so there goes that theory. But I think you know what I mean,,, the same 2 teams going at it 7 nights in a row will tell you truly who the best team is.

As for you Durham folks, welcome to TBR. Listen, folks in the western part of NC simply don't know your team,,, including myself. Instead of making comments like folks overlooking you or disrespecting you,,, how about sharing info about your team. Top pitchers, hitters, who you've beaten this year, where your guys are going to school,,,, all that info is what this board is for.

TJ-These are very good points on both topics. Getting away from things that work just because "others" are doing it this way is not acceptable with me. A seven game series is a test of patience, integrity and ability. Some may think this is a wacko talk, but alot of the values kids learn come from sports. How much did both teams learn in the Randolph\S Rowan series. The series goes to 2-0 in favor of S Rowan and the Randolph kids learn not to quit in face of adversity and the S Rowan kids learn to not let up even though your in a dominating position. Just one example of why I like series play and it models how life can teach you some of the same lessons. Every team in the state except one will finish wondering what if and series play gives a clear answer to this question.

Completely agree. Dont' get me wrong, I like the state tourney concept, for the week that everyone gets together, the locals hosting the tourney make some money, although they spend lots of time and money working too, but its a great event. JM15 and Co. have done a super job this week in Garner.

I just remember growing up when you saw Rowan County playing Hamlet, or Cherryville playing Wilmington in a 7-game series for the state championship, over a period of 7 games, you always felt like the best team came out on top, because both teams saw each other's strengths and weakesses over a period of 7 nights in a row.

One other point which individual teams are missing out on,,,,, as it is now, we take our final 8 teams to a state tournament,,,,, imagine how much money those 8 teams are missing out on. Ex, at this stage of the playoffs, the crowds are usually HUGE,,, the Rowan folks were bringing in $5000+ at each of the Area III Finals games, they gave away $881 to the winner of the HalfnHalf one night,,,,,,, with 8 teams left, if those 8 played 3 more rounds to get to a champion, those teams would be hosting at least 2, some at least 4, some at least 6 more home games which would bring in more MAJOR $$$ to their respective programs.

As I said, I like the state tourney concept, been to 4, lots of great fun, met a lot of great people,,, but I like series play myself for the above reasons,,,,,, and what you said.
