Wow! Did I create a mess.. hahaha But, maybe those things needed to be said. Thanks for the support and the apologies are not necessary. I was fortunate enough to have a good enough bunch of boys who could compete but still play only .500 ball. I have only ever had local kids except for a couple exceptions and have enjoyed not only the training piece but the social aspects of my teams. I love my families and players like they are mine. I have made many friends and a few enemies along the way I suppose but I have never intended to do that. I have enjoyed coaching about as much as anything I have ever done from Little League back in the day, to High School to the Mariners and Angels. I even tried a little fast pitch softball along the way and loved it. Anyway, Showcases are not for the faint of heart! hahaha Braves junior can attest to that. I like to keep things exciting. My brand is only my brand, not necessarily for everyone. Thanks for the fun guys!! My Angels team will be doing other things this fall and trying other teams and playing other sports. Have a great fall!

Thats the thing about showcase ball. All the talent is located within a certain area and its easy for scouts to see a lot of players in such a short time. East Cobb for example has 3 fields right beside each other and scouts can walk a total or 20 feet and see 3 games. With the addition of Kell high school across the street from East Cobb, it gives another place to play and that brings in more scouts. It seems like this may make scouts a little lazy but hey, they have to see all these guys play eventually and with all that talent around, what better place to be.

Were not trying to run you off coach! I love it when more people put their input to something and bring something different to say. Some people will agreewith what you say and some won't. I personally have nothing against you and would like for you to stay around and post some. I hope we haven't ran you off or make you feel that way and fresh ideas are always welcomed here.

"Invite only" is the only way to go if you are going control the number of teams and maintain quality teams.....:bigear:

hahahaha You don't know me very well. I am not getting ran off. I meant my team, the Angels are not playing this fall. Some of the kids are running track, playing football and some are trying out for other teams. Some are simply recuperating from sports since January. I am pretty thick skinned and with my illness, it would take a lot at this point in my life to make me mad about much. I will most always offer my opinion as most old folks do.. Right Braves??

    Alternative to show cases

The growing number of Showcase teams is largely due to players not understanding what college coaches are looking for. They do not see the skill set needed to move on to the next level. For example, there are 15 and 16-under teams that are playing showcase events. Many players and parents think they will be playing for a big D-1 team because they are on a show case team.

The Metro League that formed this past summer is going to be a good place for under class man to play high school competition through the summer and fall as well as develop their individual skills. This league has the potential to develop two-fold; area high school programs will grow and help players have a measuring stick to see when they need to make the jump to the show case elite team.

Good point. It's the denial of the parent knowing their kid isn't quite good enough to play for a elite team so they form teams left and right in order for their son to get seen. Maybe if all the daddy teams take their 1 or 2 good players and form together as one, then that would be interesting. 20 players and 16 coaches, there would be a fight before every game trying to make a line-up card. I think once tournaments catch the trend if they haven't already then they will do invites only and so called "daddy teams" will slowly go away.

Showcase has many purposes. Some of these you guys may agree with, some you won't. 1st, it's a great venue for the scouts. Much more convenient and scouts get to see more players and more often. This is actually good for the players also. 2nd, it's a great venue for talented players to show their wares. To definitely play in front of scouts. It even gives kids from a weak HS team or remote area a better chance to be seen. Showcase can be a good place for kids to grow their skills against better competition. It can be a place for parents and kids to truly find out whether they can compete or not. Pressure brings out everyones strengths and weaknesses. The good news with more teams is there are more kids that care enough about the sport to go improve their game. I see a lot of good in that.

The market itself will sort all this out. Just let the kids go and play. Those that can, will. Those that can't will adjust and move along. Free market dynamics will bare things out. It always does. Bottomline, the kids will sort it out on their own.
