I was surprised by the Olympic vs Providence score...and they were playing at Providence.

South Meck has really shown improvements the past couple of years. They are having a tough time of getting over the hump (winning the close games)

West Charlotte and East Meck appear to be very strong this year. It's tough to gauge Myers Park's win against lowly Garinger, but they are another team that appears to be stepping up to the next level.

This may be the strongest conference that the SW4A has had in awhile.

I for sure was disappointed in what I saw last night at Titan Stadium when was loss 14-13 to Enka. The coaching staff at McDowell has been dedicated since last March to changing the offensive scheme to include more of a passing game to take the burden off our stud running back and after a positive off-season workout and first two weeks of football practice we struggle at that very facet of the game and it cost us a home opener that definitely was winnable. For a program that has struggled for a while last night wasn't the best way to open the season.

North Gaston is a very impressive team. They had their way with a young, inexperienced Alexander Central squad on Friday night. AJ Blue is a first rate athlete who can run, throw, and apparently lead. North Gaston's Defense might be a little less than what you might need to win a state championship but it's not bad either. As for the Cougars they are very green with just 3 starters returning from a year ago. No linemen are back and the young kids got pushed around by superior, stronger, and quicker athletes. Josh Russell is a very good QB but he will be limited until the Cougars get more experience up front. Alexander's recievers look pretty good but the run game was a non factor. I would have loved to see last year's Cougar squad match up with North Gaston, it would have been a good one.

Bigdan,I didn't get to go to the game but from what I read McDowell's coach made a bad decession to go for 2 on the last score. I believe when your playing at home and can go for the tie you take it.

Watauga vs Davie was not what was expected, although the crowd on both sides was! Watauga played very close in the first half, and early second. The loss of Oliver on the D line was a big loss. And with recievers Baine Martin and Will Greer sidelined as well watauga seemed to lack confidence in the new passing attack. They relied way too heavily on EB. Just can't do that against a team of Davies level. Hopefully in the week off they can get some things sorted out!

The South Meck Catholic game was one of the best high school games I've seen in a while. Both sides had a few mistakes but the finish was great with Shuey getting stopped inches short of winning the game for the Sabres. South looks much improved and the seniors are ready to finally do some winning this year.

The win by East Burke over Maiden was a great way for them to kick off their year. I'm gald we are done with scrims. here in Cleveland County. The Cleveland County Jambo was fun, but it's for real this Friday.

Well, always remember its one of those things to where if you go for two and make it, you are a genius. And if you go for it and not make it, you're being questioned by everybody.

I just hope the kids can get past this and get ready for Mitchell friday night.
