Here's an interesting side note, my youngest DD has attended Montreat's softball camp for the last several years. This past summer camp was a fiasco. They watched some movies, had little to no instruction and played some games of which some were even softball. When DD told me all this after the camp I sent an email to the coach wanting an explanation and or money back. No reply. Needless to say Montreat was now off the list of colleges my DD was interested in in continuing her career. Well low and behold she (my DD ) gets an email the other day from Montreat's AD apologizing for the whole experience or lack there of. Seems the AD was cleaning out the coach's office and found t-shirts to be given to all campers and apparently a number of letters and maybe emails chastising the coach for a noncamp camp. The AD seems to think that the coach already knew she was leaving for another job and just didn't care anymore. Hope she cares more for her kids where ever she coaching now.

BTW Montreat is back on the list so DD says. She even sent a letter of thanks to the AD for the apology.

Both of my DD's attended her camps over the years and found them to be great. Sorry you had a bad experience. Our school is looking forward to her coming.

    ???

My oldest DD played with that coach as a player at Montreat and she was unbelievably dedicated as a player. Not sure what happened there but she is a quality person and was a quality player.

    Montreat Coach Position

According to a recent email from Jonathon Bennett, AD, he is conducting a national search for a new head coach. An assistant coach has been hired, a fall schedule is planned under the direction of the asst. coach.

Our daughter played for Coach L. for 2 years and has the highest of respect for her as a coach and as a person. You folks are lucky to get someone of her caliber to teach and coach at the high school level.

Sadly, the day every softball parent dreads arrived last spring. Deciding that she needed to devote more time to her studies at Montreat, she reached the point in her life that she was ready to move on past softball. After having been involved in the game for 15 years, May 2007 was a very emotional month for our entire family.

College Softball is about an education and not just softball. Softball was her driving force to attend college. Softball lead her to a wonderful college. Heres to the past Franklin HS No 9/Montreat No 8 and to the future of leader for tomorrow.

Sorry, I got a little off course, but this post touched our lives personally.

this is an excellent post, especially as it is your first post. our family also falls in the category you've experienced, as our dd chose education over playing college ball. it pained us also due to the amount of time we spent on the field with her, but it was a good choice for her future. question for you, what hs did the coach decide to go too???

She will be at her alma matter, East Burke High. Below is the press release from Montreat Athletics Website:
[IMG] Montreat College's coach Crystal Lingerfelt recently announced her resignation as head softball coach. Lingerfelt has accepted a position at her alma matter, East Burke High School, where she will be teaching, coaching, and serving as assistant athletic director.
"This was a very difficult decision for me... especially when it came time to make phone calls to my girls on the team," said Lingerfelt.

Coach Lingerfelt served Montreat not only as a caring and dedicated coach, but as a star athlete as well. She was a four-time All-Conference infielder and helped lead the Lady Cavaliers to a two-year dominance of the AAC and NAIA Region XII culminating with a 36-9 record in 2001, a team that was ranked as high as 22nd in the nation. Montreat made back-to-back appearances in the NAIA National Tournament under Lingerfelt's leadership. A two-sport star, she is also the ninth all-time leading scorer in Lady Cav basketball history with 1019 points.

"Unfortunately, we are saying good-bye to a friend. Crystal has served Montreat both as a student-athlete and as a coach and we will miss her greatly. However, I am excited about the new opportunity that she has. She feels like God is moving her in a different direction and I look forward to seeing His plans for her unfold," said Montreat's athletic director Jonathan Bennett.

Hey No9Mom, number 12 has made the same decision. It killed her Dad and we sure will miss watching her play, but it is time for her to move on with her education and her life. Tell number 9 hello for us-we wish her the best. East Burke will be getting a good one-Cyrstal is a wonderful person.
