I ventured to new territory yesterday...Wilson NC. And who do I run into?

SoutherNo1, Stretchlon, Bentley and Ukey (another Kentucky boy from England).

We went to one of the Best steakhouses I have ever been to....Beefmastor Inn DBacks- talkin' about character. This place has been around when you were born. It's a small, itty bitty place that has 1 hour waiting times.

So, I get there with my buddies and lo and behold; "Come right in fellas. Anybody that is a friend of Southy and Stretchlon is a friend of mine". I looked behind me to see who he was talking to, but no one was behind me, so I went right in. Dbacks, this place was amazing!.They had about 6 tables and they bring your meat and you tell him when to cut your portion. He said,
here" I said, "a little more"; he said, "here" I said, "a little more" he said, "here" I said, "Bingo...start cutting". The steaks were awesome, the salad is so fresh, I believe they picked it from their backyard garden and a baked potato that really should have placed on Bentley's plate (his steak was smaller than mine)

Let me tell you though. Despite what you say about the Eastern folks (and Ukey is far east..think China)...they are great people and they don't get any better than the one's I was sitting with. Strechlon is a dynamo. I think he could umpire 4 games at one time (he's quick that way). He's also a great guy. Bentley (we gottta get him to sign up) is old school baseball (my kind of guy)...and that leaves me with Southern. What a gentleman (I'm not saying that because he picked up the tab). After spending a little time with him, you feel you have been friends forever. I'm tellin' ya Dbacks; these are some classy folks

I invited them to Charlotte, so when they come, it's time for us to take them out......your treat!

Thanks guys for a wonderful time. One i won't forget

By the way, I'm going to Bill Ellis tonight......W00T!!!!!

    Wilson, NC

Good calls on Beef Masters and Bill Ellis BBQ. My son played in Wilson this summer with the Tobs and had a great summer. Another place you need to hit is the Hot Dog House. I can't say enough good things about the people of Wilson. Everyone there made us feel like one of the family. His host family was wonderful. A relation of a good friend of mine gave me the key to his house for the summer after only meeting him once. I could come and go as I wished. I can't count the number of people on one hand that would do that. In fact the second time I met him we piled in his car and he showed me the sites of Wilson. Props to Wilson, I recommend taking in a Tobs game next summer if you wish a reason to go back to Wilson. The NC Baseball Hall of Fame is at the stadium they play at.

Braves, it was certainly a treat to meet you. Make sure you let us know the next time you're down this way. I haven't been to Silver Lake Seafood in a while, maybe we can check that out. Here's an interesting fact about Stretchlon's generosity that you weren't told of the other night.... he donates ALL of his umpiring receipts to his lovely wife, Trish. That means that half of your steak was paid for due to her kindness.

    Not only did I finish mine, I finished Bentley's, too!..........he wasn't looking.

Thanks D..but all credit goes to his mama. Thankfully, his looks, too!

Thanks PK for another great recommendation. I believe the Wilson Chamber of Commerce should treat us for all the free publicity we have given them.:laugh4:

You guys make sure when you make the Road Trip to Charlotte that you bring Trish along. She is now an honorary member of the TBR Traveling Road and Restaurant Critic Show.

Thanks again guys for a terrific night....and don't forget to bring Ukey if he happens to be in town. Although he knew absolutely nothing about baseball, when he left the restaurant after our conversation at dinner...he still learned nothing. But he was a great sport about it. "Cheerio" Ukey...it was nice to have met you, young chap.
