"DaddY Ball" Phenomenon

What, if any, experiences has anyone had/seen/noticed regarding "DaddyBall?"

Also: What is "DaddyBall?"

DADDY BALL DEFINED :

PLAY YOUR KID IN THE POSITION THAT BEST PROMOTES HIM,EVEN IF HE IS NOT GOOD PLAYING THAT POSITION. MAKE SURE HE IS IN THE LINE-UP @ THE TOP, EVEN IF HE ISN'T ANY GOOD.PLAY HIM ,PLAY HIM ABOVE ALL OTHER KIDS.MAKE SURE THAT HE IS NOTICED, AND HIM ALONE GETS THE GLORY OF THE WIN...LOSSES GO TO THE OTHER 10 BALL PLAYERS. SHOW FAVORTISM TO YOUR KID IN ALL MATTERS THAT PERTAIN TO THE SPORT.OH YEA, I FORGOT ONE IMPORTANT THING,MAKE SURE THE PAVOROTTI PUTS HIS PICTURE ON THE FRONT PAGE IN BOLD WITH ALL HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS, AND ALL THE COLLEGE SCOUTS THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO BE LOOKING AT HIM FOR POSSIBLE RECRUITMENT ,AND OTHER KIDS WAY IN THE BACKGROUND WITH SMALL WRITE-UPS....SOUND FAMILIAR ????

Starts his own team.

#1- Plays SS because someone told him thats where the best player plays.
#2- Hits in the 3 hole because he heard thats where the best player hits.
#3- He gives him #1 because he is.
#4- He pitches because all studs pitch.
#5- Carries his bat bag because you cant damage that gun.
#6- Never gives him the bunt sign because "you gotta turn him loose"
#7- Cheers for him in the 3rb base coaching box while hes hitting.
#8- Tells him to get more lead while the batter is hitting.
#9- Tells Billy "Get on base give Bobby another chance" Bobby is his son
10- Tells the catcher "You got to get Bobby those strikes"
11- Yells from the dugout "Dont worry Bobby that was a bad hop"
12- Tells Jimmy "You got to make that play"
13- Cancells Saturdays practice because Bobby has to go to a Birthday Party
14- Tells Johnny he will not start because he missed Saturdays practice
15- Sends the HS coach a letter telling about the players he has coming. Bobby and Tommy (Tommy is the assistant coaches son)
16- Tells the parents speed doesnt matter - Bobby cant run
17- Tells Carl he didnt make the team - He's not fast enough
18- Turns down the stud SS after tryouts that just moved to town. We dont want to mess up the team chemistry.
19- Recruits the CF from the other AAU team. We got to do what it takes to get better.
20- Throws Tommy the assistant coach a bone and lets his son play SS. But only when Bobby is pitching.

No no no Cheeze!!

It goes like this.

Bobby got the start but the umpire squeezes him because he throws so hard. So I had to take him out and put in a guy that doesnt throw hard so we could get some strikes called. Everyone knows these guys cant hit him so they aint gonna swing. The umpires are jealous of my son so they squeeze him.

What I'm still trying to figure out is, "When does it stop?"

It continues in High School age baseball. Not at the HS but HS age leagues and teams. Some Dad's who are not qualified start showcase teams just so their kid has a place to play.

 

Wait. There are not what you would call a true daddy ball team. It is the one in high school is always playing up to the coach. Letting the coach know that he plays best here. Oh and by the way here is some $$$ for the program. We all have seen that one.

 

I have to admit this isn't quite on topic....But this summer I was watching a Legion game & said out loud: "Gee, that kid is so lousy he has to be the Coach's son."

The guy one row back said: "No, he's my son."

I swallowed my tongue the rest of the night.
