    Gold

Gold level of competition is supposed to be a higher level. Cardinals, Cobras, & Blues "A" have won over Gold teams that were in Gold Nationals this yr. More College Coaches at their tournaments.Talked with a couple coaches, & they like the Gold teams, but are more interested in the girls that are interested in their programs, which stands to reason. Not many Gold tourns in this area, so lots of traveling, which means lots of $$ . IMO if Gold was that critical to get the gals seen, then Chandlers Cards would be playing it, & we all know how much success that program has had.

    Gold Experience

As one of the parents of a Gold team player, I believe this was an experience of a lifetime for these young ladies.
First of all, yes, it is expensive due to the fact that there are not a lot of tourneys around. I am hoping that the Lady Blues Gold paved the way for NC which will help get some of these tournaments closer. This will definitely help with expenses. The other key is having a group of parents that are willing to fund raise in order to cut down on the cost.
I think the Gold experience was invaluable for two reasons:
    1. It gave the girls competition against the "best of the best" (now I am not
saying that the other levels of travel ball don't have great players) What I am saying is that they hit against pitchers and played against players that they would have never seen had they not played Gold. Gold is huge for example on the West Coast. We played against players that are going to Arizona State and such. This not only gave the underclassmen experience to prove their selves for the next level, but also gave the signed players great preparation for what they were going to face at the next level. I feel like my daugher went to college very aware and prepared to meet the challenges set before her.
    2. It gave the underclassmen different exposure to different college coaches.
I was amazed to see all of the different college coaches there that I wouldn't have seen at the local level.(Again, nothing wrong with the local coaches.)
They now have choices of colleges to look at that they might not have had a chance to otherwise.

To finish up, you also have to have a coach that is willing to give up his/her time to prepare the young ladies to play at this level, and be willing to travel to these tournaments. This is a huge committment for them as well.

I want to thank the Lady Blues Gold for giving my daughter an experience and friendships that we can never replace.

No Gold is not for everyone, but if you ever get the chance, it is a priceless experience.

:19: Good luck to the upcoming team, and to all of the NC fastpitch teams in this coming year.

    Gold

The Blues chose to go Gold last year and had some success finishing 24 in the country out of 64 teams. Gold tournaments provide a higher level of competition since many of the teams carry a large percentage of college players on their roster. The 2007 players got an early taste of the type of players they would face in college and the 2008 kids saw how much they had to step of their game. I believe all our 2008's Gold team players have committed early and local colleges seeing them perform at that level may have helped in the process.
Gold competition is not for everybody and I am not trying to sell it to any other team or organization. We chose to do it, had success, the girls seem to appreciate the spots they got to see as a result of the travel and the team worked hard on fund raisers etc. to help raise the money. No rich kids as seems to be implied!
I really do not care what other teams do and although I have high respect for all the NC teams, I do not follow their lead to make decisions. We have a Gold team this year and I hope we have even more success but the bottomline is U still have to market your players to be successful.
Best of luck to all teams, we hope to see many of U along the way and always enjoy the good games we have.
Let's keep it about the girls and stay away from any negative comments we can muster. Softball was supposed to be a game and a game that is fun, many try to make it a chore to compete. Get a life and support all the girls and teams of our state, what harm could that possibly cause!
