Best under-used facility: Heritage Park in Simpsonville, SC (near Greenville)

Good: Great fields. Extra practice infield. 12 permanent soft toss stations, 4 full batting cages. 2 press boxes. Plenty of shade trees. Nice playground for Little siblings.

Bad: Of the 6 fields there, 3 have grass infields, leaving only 3 for softball.

On the Cal Ripken fields, how well does it play on the artificial turf. Do the pitchers throw on the turf, or are they on dirt?

    Answer

The only thing that is dirt is around the mound / circle, and homeplate area, everything else is artificial turf, even the foul lines are painted on the field...it is really cool !!!

Heritage Park Scheduled To Remove Some Grass Infields

Jeffer, I agree 100% about this facility. I know I recently read that the folks at Heritage Park are going to remove some of their grass infields, in order to attract more softball tournaments. Do you know if this has been done yet? I see that Furman is hosting a fall tournament there the weekend of Sept. 21-23.

Once the grass is removed, this will be the nicest complex in the Upstate of SC for softball. Robbie Davis and the folks with the Simpsonville Rec do a great job with their facilities.

In NC, I would say the parks in Cary where the ASA state has been played and Springwood Park in burlington get my vote. I hear Morganton has a nice new park, but I haven't been there......yet.

However the best park I have ever seen is in Columbus, GA where they play the NFCA Lead off Classic, 2005 ASA Nationals and where the US Olympic team played when the Olympics were in Atlanta in 1996 (i think). LOTS of shade with elevated mounds between the field so the fans can have a great view of the games.
