    I don't know where I've heard these.....

Sweep off your own porch before you sweep off someone else's....

Keep your friends close, your enemies closer....

You are only as good as the people you play with......

    What comes around goes around......

Unknown...you can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.

Winston Churchill...kites rise highest against the wind, not with it.

    I must confess!...

....contrary to TBR folks thinking of me as a literary wizard, I'm getting most of this stuff from my wifes dayly reader.

    This one covers us all!!

I have heard many variations to this one and we have all been guilty of it at times.

"Don't let your big Mouth overload your little rear end"

Heaven knows I've been accused of this phenomenon before!! :46:

    Here are a few sayings

A man who has committed a mistake and doesn't correct it, is committing another mistake.

By three methods we may learn wisdom: first, by reflection which is noblest; second, by imitation, which is the easiest; and third, by experience, which is the bitterest.

He does not preach what he practices till he has practiced what he preaches.

He who wishes to secure the good of others has already secured his own.

Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fall.

Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.

The superior man acts before he speaks, and afterwards speaks according to his action.

To know that one knows what one knows, and to know that one doesn't know what one doesn't know, there lies true wisdom.

To practice five things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue; these five are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, and kindness.

To see what is right, and not do it, is want of courage, or of principle.

When you know a thing, to hold that you know it; and when you do not know a thing, to allow that you do not know it--this is knowledge.

All that you see or seem, is but a dream within a dream.

He, who muddies his own stream of life, should not complain when forced to drink of the dirty water.

Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears.

But we loved with a love that was more than love.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, and dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

I have great faith in fools - self-confidence my friends call it.

It may well be doubted whether human ingenuity can construct an enigma - which human ingenuity may not, by proper application, resolve.

Man's real life is happy, chiefly because he is ever expecting that it soon will be so.

They who dream by day are cognizant of many things, which escape those who dream only by night.

To vilify a great man is the readiest way in which a little man can himself attain greatness.

With me poetry has not been a purpose, but a passion.

That man is not truly brave who is afraid either to seem or to be, when it suits him, a coward.

There is something in the unselfish and self-sacrificing love of a brute, which goes directly to the heart of him who has had frequent occasion to test the paltry friendship and gossamer fidelity of mere Man.

The nose of a mob is its imagination. By this, at any time, it can be quietly led.

A person starts to live when he can live outside himself.

Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.

A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would in deed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.

As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.

Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school.

Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Friendship is constant in all other things save in the office and affairs of love.

Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt.

This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.

The best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.

What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

One can never consent to creep when one feels the impulse to soar.

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.

Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

Four things to learn in life: To think clearly without hurry or confusion; to love everybody sincerely; to act in everything with the highest motives; to trust God unhesitatingly.

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. It's what sunflowers do.

Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.

    Courage is grace under pressure.

    Never confuse movement with action.

I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.

Only three things in life I've really wanted to do: shooting, writing, and making love.

If you continue to think the way you've always thought you will continue to get what you've always got.

    More StUFF

It now costs more to amuse a child than it once did to educate his father.

My favorites by Eleanor Roosevelt :

A woman is like a teabag, you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water...

Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people....

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent...

Not sure who wrote this but I love it:

"A GOOD FRIEND WILL BAIL YOU OUT OF JAIL SHOULD
    THE NEED ARISE...
A TRUE FRIEND WILL BE SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU...SAYING ...DAMN, THAT WAS FUN!"
