    Good Morning.

    Hold on.

What about the other guys? Its an unfortunate outcome. Not everyone is going to make it to the next level. Nobody hits better than 4 out of 10 times. That superstar 3rd basemans throw has to be caught by somebody. The kid that catches it may not be the superstar that is being recruited but he is trying and he is not quiting. Maybe it will work out for him also. As for showcase baseball. I think it misses out on alot of great players.

Its just like travel ball. Can't everybody do it. Its expensive.

My question is how did we get from this to Braves considering taking this site down?

Ive read the posts but come on.

Your last sentence goes back to my original post from 2 weeks ago and my comment yesterday. It starts at home.

I don't need you to tell me what's life and what's not. You don't know me, what i've achieved, where I've been, or where I'm going.

To Gloveside's comment, most everyone seems to be sharing various opinions in a polite manner. That's better than most sports sites. This site serves a good purpose. Sometimes people just get rattled/upset (whatever; you choose your own word) when we don't all share the same opinion.

    Codeword Expensive?

I am sure that in many instances playing travel (and then) showcase ball is far too expensive for many. I hate that it is.

What I wonder though is how many times "too expensive" is used by parents as a codeword for 1.) I don't want to make that big a commitment or 2.) My son can't cut it at that level.

Believe me, I'm not trying to create a social or financial issue here. I know some boys can't afford to travel, etc...... but in your opinion is "expensive" used to liberally by some as an excuse for the real reason they don't participate?

Ever get up at 4am on a Saturday to take your son or daughter to a tournament? I don't think many are ready for that part.

One more thing. If that young man or women is willing to get up at 4am on a Saturday to travel a hundred or so miles to play this game, shouldn't you as a mom or dad support that?

    IMO

Recently my son and I traveled most of the night to arrive for an 8 am game. We arrived at the hotel at 2:15am after a HS football game. My son made the effort to be there so he could catch a kid on his showcase team that would not have been able to pitch if my son was not there because he and the same kid are our two catchers. All the while with two of his school coaches telling him not to go. My son realized if he did not go he would be depriving the other kid of an opportunity to pitch in front a a few scouts that wanted to see him. So he took the grief and suffered the consequences so he could be there for the other kid.

    Some good points

Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Some peoples opinion is based on perceptions and some peoples opinion is based on experience. My original post was about team mates of a showcase team "any showcase" team should stick the season out even after they got the scholley to be around to help and support the ones that had not gotten a scholley offer yet. That was the basis of the thread.

Most of the guys I have been around that play showcase baseball are awesome team players who do just that. They are there every weekend even after they have secured an offer and accepted one. They come because they love to play the game and they want to help out the other guys that helped them. They play to win and they are great kids with no I in them at all.

Making statements based on perception rather than personal experiences is what can cause some folks to raise their eyebrows a bit. I cant tell you how many times I have heard someone talk about showcase baseball in a negative manner only to find out their son has never played on a showcase team. Or trashed legion only to find out their kid has never played legion. Or trashed a coach only to find out their son has never played for the coach but only "heard" what they are repeating. Or accused a coach of illegal recruiting violations based on hear say or by simply connecting dots of information or hear say from many different parties.

I would like to hear what amount of money to play on a showcase team woud be considered acceptable for those that say its too expensive. Could it be that the kid himself is not willing to give up all his weekends to play baseball? Could it be he has tried out but was just not good enough to make the team? Or maybe the parents are not willing to give up all their weekends to watch baseball? Maybe their kid would rather have those nice rims on that nice car? Or that killin stereo system to go along with those rims? And man what about the lake and the beach trips?

Time of year dictates what's talked about

I personally believe that the time of year has the greatest influence on the topics discussed. For example not much Legion talk now cause no TEAMS are playing.

This time of year I and apparently some others are interested in the hot prospects that are committing to a variety of programs. Those kids get the spotlight persay at this moment and rightfully so as some of those have worked extremely hard to merit those rewards. Some Fall ball, Showcase, or whatever the name you choose teams are playing and the results of those games are being reported. As well as pitching and hitting numbers for some of each game.

I have no idea how many college coaches and Pro scouts view this information posted. But I know some that do and I'm sure many more browse to be sure they aren't missing out on someone they should know about. Unfortunately recruiting is individualistic and focuses on particular players. Though when a scout or coach does go to see prospect#1 play the other players have center stage also. Light it up and even if you don't fit a need at that particular school, your name may get mentioned to someone else.

Bill Capp's (Sox travel team) and Freddy Sugg's (Anglers) were some of the first showcase teams that I knew about and they really helped get NC players seen and recruited. Later came some others and the internet. Coach Suggs I was told just landed a full time MLB scouting job, he had been heading up the Copperheads Showcase teams, also has an online site now as has Impactbaseball for a while. Anyway the amount of NC players now moving on to play at the next level I believe has increased greatly and that is a fantastic deal for those kids.

Tune in during Late February, March, April and May and you will see lots of discussion about conference standings, teams performances, State playoffs match ups etc. all relevant as the seasons start developing.

I agree that teamwork and other attributes are extremely important and that at times it may appear those aren't being brought to center stage, but when the time is right I believe they are.

I'm personally sick and tired of the people that blame the teachers, coaches, etc. for their childrens problems. TEAMWORK, SPORTMANSHIP, COMPETITIVENESS, WORK ETHIC, LOYALTY are traits that PARENTS should be instilling in their children.

TBR is great for kids that play the game, unfortunately that can't be everyone - That's life though, isn't it.

As I said two weeks ago, yesterday and again this morning on this same thread. It starts at home. Coaches shouldn't be expected to be saviors. We agree on that Coach.

You want to try to stop Braves from taking this site down, then stop posting stuff. Post meaningful things and not some stupid comment that will upset the masses or more importantly Braves. We all know your opinion and were you may stand on a certain subject so just stop posting your opinion about world peace and let this thread go. Everybody gets all upset because Braves has threatened to shut down this site. If that doesn't trigger something in your head to let this go and watch what you say or how you say it, then he should shut it down. We have other post where we can post great things about a team or for a individual that committed to a school or something. Everybody has to have the last say in this thread thats why it has turned into what is has the past couple days.
