This is the best sports discussion site I have ever been on bar none. Nothing but baseball people here. Not many people with axes to grind. Not quite sure how this topic took the turn it did, but lock it if its causing second thoughts about the future of the site.

A question was asked and I posted my opinion. Doesn't hurt my feelings if you disagree with my opinion. I haven't flamed anyone or attacked anyone, nor will I. I didn't get where I am by following the masses. As to your stupid comment, I could comment but I won't. I can't speak for Braves but I believe he is too intelligent to shut down a site that does so many good things because someone's opinion doesn't agree with the masses or even his. I can think of a lot of people that didn't follow the masses and for which I am grateful they did not. My son has a test tomorrow on the Bill of Rights in Honors Civ. and Econ. Maybe we should review it ourselves. Good luck to you young man.

I hope this may clear up any misunderstanding. First let me say that One Putt is a great informative poster. I respect his opinion a lot. If he believes that TBR contributes in a negative way in certain areas...I'm going to listen to him.

I'm so close to this board that sometimes I may not see the forest through the trees. My point was if Putt is correct then I don't want any part of it. I shouldn't have said "Close the door"....what I meant to say was that "I would move on". I don't know who would run the board, but I'm sure TBR would continue and be in good hands.

But I would probably rest for a couple of weeks...then start a new one.

See, I don't want to argue, fight, ban anyone or get into some deep discussions about the warts of baseball. I just want to gather up my friends, have fun and talk baseball....HS baseball and the kids that play it.

    one putt,

had to make a few comments. you seem to have a lot of knowledge about the game etc. i agree with alot of your comments. i do think showcase ball has, to a degree made kids selfish. but i also agree that it starts at home. i just think showcase has provided a venue for a great deal of positives, but also has allowed the growth of some negative aspects as well (self absorption) as some have mentioned. the biggest disagreement that i have with your comments (and others) is the one you made about the hard working high school coach as being the rare exception. i have watched high school coaches be bashed on this site on a couple of occaisions. i think that a LARGE majority of the high school coaches in this area work their butts off to create a positive environment and experience for their players. who else works on their fields??? not the county, not the school, and usually definetely not the parents. showcase may have it's place, as does legion, and definetely high school ball. i am just a little tired of people thinking that showcase coaches are wonderful (and some are). and that high school coaches are trash (and some are). it seems like people think that jfust because they are paying thousands of dollars to play, that it automatically makes the coach better than anyone else. maybe the high schools should start charging a thousand dollars a season just to make it seem like their coaches know what they are doing:drummer: just my opinion. again i think that All of our baseball venues (showcase, legion, and high shcool ball have a great purpose). not mad or ill at anyone and i don't want this to seem like i am bashing anyone. my main goal here was to defend the hard working high school coaches.

"Boy, that sure escalated in a hurry!"

Appropriate quote from Ron Burgundy, after the news team rumble that got way out of hand in the movie, Anchorman.

    Thoughts

Braves, if TBR needs to be shut down because it may make a player "selfish" then every local newspaper, that covers high school sports, needs to discontinue publication. This is the only site that stays active year round... and thank you for that.
As far as the selfishness of players these days, consider these thoughts...
We're talking about 16 - 18 yr. olds. Their brains work a little differently at that age. They see food = "I'm hungry", they see drinks = "I'm thirsty", they see a cute girl = "I'm... well you know... Most of their thoughts begin with "I". It's the nature of the beast. As parents, we try to teach them to be their best and to respect others as they want to be respected. In other words, teach them to turn the "I want something" into "I Will Accomplish Something Great" for himself AND others around him.

    Gotta do better than that.....

...what you've achieved? How does that matter? Maybe thats why we don't know you. Don't be hatin'. Well I'm sure I'm on that list now. Peace.
