This time of year I and apparently some others are interested in the hot prospects that are committing to a variety of programs. Those kids get the spotlight persay at this moment and rightfully so as some of those have worked extremely hard to merit those rewards. Some Fall ball, Showcase, or whatever the name you choose teams are playing and the results of those games are being reported. As well as pitching and hitting numbers for some of each game.

I have no idea how many college coaches and Pro scouts view this information posted. But I know some that do and I'm sure many more browse to be sure they aren't missing out on someone they should know about. Unfortunately recruiting is individualistic and focuses on particular players. Though when a scout or coach does go to see prospect#1 play the other players have center stage also. Light it up and even if you don't fit a need at that particular school, your name may get mentioned to someone else.

Bill Capp's (Sox travel team) and Freddy Sugg's (Anglers) were some of the first showcase teams that I knew about and they really helped get NC players seen and recruited. Later came some others and the internet. Coach Suggs I was told just landed a full time MLB scouting job, he had been heading up the Copperheads Showcase teams, also has an online site now as has Impactbaseball for a while. Anyway the amount of NC players now moving on to play at the next level I believe has increased greatly and that is a fantastic deal for those kids.

Tune in during Late February, March, April and May and you will see lots of discussion about conference standings, teams performances, State playoffs match ups etc. all relevant as the seasons start developing.

I agree that teamwork and other attributes are extremely important and that at times it may appear those aren't being brought to center stage, but when the time is right I believe they are.

I'm personally sick and tired of the people that blame the teachers, coaches, etc. for their childrens problems. TEAMWORK, SPORTMANSHIP, COMPETITIVENESS, WORK ETHIC, LOYALTY are traits that PARENTS should be instilling in their children.

TBR is great for kids that play the game, unfortunately that can't be everyone - That's life though, isn't it.

My thoughts,

I didn't mean to imply that showcase coaches are great and HS coaches are not. Not sure where that came from. My son's staff is extremely qualified and very knowledgeable. And they work their ass off 12 months of the year. I really don't know but a handful of showcase coaches. I just see where some HS coaches work very hard and some put in the minimum, for whatever reason. Obviously I'm not going to mention names, plus they may have a good reason for what they do. I'm not really sure you can compare showcase coaches and HS coaches. One group has to maintain fields, train year round, educate, mentor, and such while the other group appears to have less duties. Just not sure you can compare the two. JMO.

Freddy has not landed a full-time scouting job with a club as of yet. He did not like reading a rumor that was not true. I spoke with him Saturday and he has not applied. According to him, pro clubs will most likely not hire scouts until after the World Series, and most likely will wait till November. To say he has a job is quite a bit premature. I personally hope he gets a full time area scouting job. He has worked really hard over the years for the MLB Bureau under Gary Randall.

The key word is "yet". If Freddie decides that this is what he wants to do, it's just a matter of time.

Also, I didn't mean to disrepect both Freddie and Bill Capps in their initial starting of showcase teams. Both of them are pioneers in NC establishing teams for HS players and getting them noticed by scouts. They started their programs before the modern "showcase" concept evolved. Both are truly legends and have helped more kids get schollys than anyone else combined.
