    A Ball Field Somewhere
Went to a ball field tonight to clear my mind and relax...Usaully I watch the younger teams play rec. ball but I guess tonight was different...I saw the older leagues playing slow-pitch and I was amazed...Not at just how hard they hit the ball but the defence they had to play...I was stunned...This game made me relize how pitching effects the game...I want to continue to watch this sport...There still somethings I'm unclear on...Some of the rules are different...But in the league I watched you could play when you are 16...I'm thinking about getting into this sport next season...Just to keep playing after AAU ball ends...But I needed to know if this would affect my game in fastpitch...Don't want to get into something thats going to end up hurting me...I didn't know if it could affect my swing or timing...Anyone got any thoughts...:feedback:

I played baseball most of my youth.I got into slowpitch at around 15 and played for a couple years.I tried to go back to baseball, the defensive skills were better, but I could never get rid of the hitch I developed in my swing because of slowpitch. My advice is to stay away from slowpitch until your fastpitch career is over.Hope this helps.

    Not for you

Slow pitch is like a drug for teens. You hit the ball with authority each time at bat which is intoxicating. Then there is the defense, which is never ending due to all the hitting. This game will be for you one day but that time is far, far in the future! Keep your focus on being the best you can be at FP! If you play SP your FP bat will go away!

    The other opinion

I know that most people will disagree with me, but since my DD has been playing slow pitch this fall, her batting average has gone up tremendously, she is hitting with more power, and is seeing the ball much better. It has also taught her to wait on the ball, and be able to adjust to the change up that she was usually lunging at instead of waiting and driving through it.

It has also given her time to work at playing other positions and to also work on her crow hops in the OF getting the ball in from a farther distance since SP is played on a larger field.

Probably not for all people, but it may be a fit for some.

i have a former player who's in college, in off season plays slowpitch with other students, it does effect her swing for a time, takes her longer to adjust back to fastpitch.

    YEP !!!

Mama Duck's DD ( Shea ) is an exception, most slow pitch will screw a fast pitch player up big time unless the pitcher your DD is facing is throwing all change-ups...a lot of you probably don't remember but Chelsy Leonard when she was 12 & Under threw a killer change-up just about every other pitch....it was deadly !!!!

watching the ball is still watching the ball

I think you are all wrong on this one.... I consider any kind of play practice!! I think if you're on a completely rec team that has no game, then yeah, it will not help, but, if your kid is playing with talented adults that know how to play... even more experience for her. I know a few girls that are killing the ball during the week with adults in slow pitch and on the weekends in fast pitch. Its alot better than them sitting in the house on the computer chatting....
They are still running the bases, catching, throwing... practice makes perfect.:moon:

    Slogans

    My two favorite slogans :

"Friends Don't Let Friends Play Slowpitch"

"Slowpitch is for Everyone, Fastpitch is for Athletes"
