I kinda remember that post and will stand by my statement.

Here is something that I find amazing! In all of the years that Freddy has been coaching, I never once heard a player or parent speak disparaging about his character or question his care for his players.

You asked about can he get you before scouts, Just like anything else, one's word is govern by the respect he receives. If Freddy Suggs tells any scout, "you need to come watch this boy". The scouts will try to be there that night.

He's "The Beacon"- his light shines far and wide for all to see. To be quite obvious, he is above reproach.

OKay...I will speak on this one...

What you have seen here about Freddy is true. Freddy did get 23 players signed last year, and has several committed for this year to date. He does not spend on the big tournaments like East Cobb or Jupiter for several reasons: #1, He does not have the money to do this, he pays out of pocket for his teams to enter tournaments. He did not accept money from the Copperheads this year. He only wore their uniforms. He plays in the Carolinas and VA because that's where most of our players will likely go to school. He makes no guarantees, he just promises them the opportunity. He coaches that first impressions are lasting and you have to take advantages of opportunity. He is fair and upfront in his assessments. He will flat out tell you what he thinks, no sugar coating. He has always told players "if you dont agree with my evaluation of you, then prove me wrong." He is as fair and honest as I have seen them, and he also helps find places for players to play that cant otherwise afford it. Remember playing for him will only cost the expenses of travel, in the past no player fees. He is returning with the Anglers in the spring, running it through CC Prospects. If you have further specific questions, you can ask me.

I think playing for him is an excellent opportunity!! I highly recommend!!

Just to add an observation I had.. We played in one of Freddie's tournaments at Elon over the summer and it rained like crazy the night before. When we got there, not expecting to play, Freddie was on the field with his shoes off, ankle deep in mud working on the field. You won't see many others doing those kinds of things to get the teams seen. He is extremely honest about ability which is good. At times, like most of us old people, sorry Freddie, he has a brain fart.. hahaha Seriously, Freddie is a great guy who will go way beyond what he needs to help a kid.

I appreciate the response to this log. In researching showcase baseball you would be left to believe that if you did not play DB, SCP, Heat, Cubs ect. that your opportunities for advancement are limited. Those teams are in the big tournaments and have recognition on there web site but I have seen talent on the field that surpass alot of the talent that I have seen on DB, SCP and Heat. If I am not mistaken there are a couple on the Copperheads a 2010 and 2009 that am sure Freddy will probably beinterested in taking with him. My question is how does Freddy build this program agianst those guys.

    Welcome to the BIG show

Showcase is not about being against ANYBODY... it is for EVERYBODY....to be seen to see if they can be a SOMEBODY.....does that make sense?

Just because they do that does that make them better than other teams to play for?
Freddy is not a self promoter.
There is talent all around and he knows that.

I do understand. I did not mean it the way that it sounded. It just seems to be alot of emphasis placed on the other teams and what they can do for the player.

I am sure that Freddy will do what he can to take those players with him. I believe that the players committed to Freddy will follow him no matter the uniform they wear.

I know I would... if it weren't for school committments (in the classroom) and family needs (I have been on the road for 2 straight years with Freddy), I would be there right now.

Here are a couple of reasons I see that Freddy doesn't play the same schedules as the Dirtbags, etc...:

    1. Cost - It can cost in some cases $2000 or more to enter these tournaments, plus travel and expenses. That's way too expensive for him to take the 2-3 teams he has been fielding the past 2 years without charging the kids.

    2. Exposure - I will not challenge the amount of national exposure these teams get by going to Jupiter and East Cobb. I know firsthand from my experiences of coaching with the Dirtbags the amount of exposure that's there. But realistically speaking, most of the kids that have played for Freddy will play at schools that we expose them to. These schools are relatively close to home, and are good fits for our players. SO you have to look at this too.

    3. Pitching - While we have had some very good pitchers over the past 2 years, we probably hav not had the number of "quality arms" required to compete there for a championship.

Freddy has contacts out the wazoo... When Freddy calls a coach/scout, they take him at his word, because he is straightforward and honest in his assessment of ability, skill, etc...

I trust Freddy with my players, he treats them like men, he has high expectations and pushes them against quality competition in front of quality folks.

IF you want an honest assessment, call Freddy. If your son doesnt perform, freddy will tell youbased on what he has seen. If it doesn't work out the fist time, he will look again because things change for all kids.

BTW... OldAngelsCoach... he did work hard at Elon top get the field ready with the rest of us, didn't he??? He does his best to get all kids good exposure whether you play for him or not. He's ALL about the KIDS!
