The Lady Lightning - Team Combat had a great showing this past weekend at the Team NJ Showcase in Edison, NJ. We ended with a record of 4 - 2 against some great teams from all over the US.

    7 HRs this weekend.

Heather Taylor (3) should have had 4, but ump made an awful call on a ball that was about 4' inside the line and called it foul.
    Missy Wills
    Nikki Edwards
    Ericka Harris
    Brittney Wood

Talk about cold. Friday the wind was blowing about 30 MPH and it was only about 50 degrees and walked out Sat Am and had to scrape the ice off the windshield to make it to the field by 7AM.

    Great weekend ladies.

    COLD!!!

Yeah, it was way cold. As some know, I am not lacking on the insulation and as a mom who was not able to be there on Friday said when she was telling her husband about the games.

"Look, Audrey said it was cold, and she's NEVER cold!!" Really did get nicer on Sat and Sunday without the wind and several teams were wearing shorts, but we still thought they had lost their minds.

    Bats

It sounds as though your Combats held up in the cold. Traditionally most bats are only recommended 60 degrees or more. But Lady Lightning was keeping them warm on a ball. Way to go. How about some of the other NC teams in NJ how did they fare?

    Question about picture

I see in one of the pictures the 3B in a very crouched position, much like a baseball infielder. I've been told by some that they like to keep the 3B standing a little taller, or at least with hands near the thigh or waist, in order to react better to the line drive. Just wondering what the general consensus is on how to position her. It may depend on the player.

    Great showing Lightning
The only other team from NC I believe was the Blues/Legacy according to the NJ website and they went 0-5-1

    Correct

I know I am not suppose to report GOLD scores, thats why I hadnt put anything on here. But I will confirm the previous reply. We did finish 0-5-1 in the Team NJ SHOWCASE tournament. We played 4 teams that played in Gold Nationals. One of which finished 3rd and the other 17th along with the host team, Team NJ Gold whom had several players from other Gold rosters. Overall I was happy with our showing and the following of college coaches. We had schools from the Big Ten, SEC, ACC, Big East, Conference USA along with several DI schools from our region at every game. It was a very productive weekend for our girls. The goal of Showcase tournaments is getting your kids seen in front of as many coaches as possible and I feel we accomplished that.

Very good weekend of exposure and growth for the team.

    Idea

Why don't the two teams play a doubleheader and see who wins since records are apparently important. Both have good talent
