To me all of the above is strange. All things in life have a cost associated with them right? And the better high quality thing, will and should cost more.
There is nothing that is FREE....(other than at times when someone else is bearing your cost). If you want the so called "exposure" then you are free to choose to pay the cost. No parent is being forced into anything and the reluctant ones should not do it. The recent evolution of showcase ball has been very good for the sport and my only question is...Why did the high school associations or high school coaches not take the sport to this new level when they had the chance? If they had you can bet that it would not have been for free. I am a parent and I don't feel screwed other than I wish I had another son playing ball so I could excercise my right to choose what I felt is best for our family. Let me close by saying that IF anyone has a son that is truly worth a college skolley he can just play neighborhood ball and he will be discovered but for MOST of us we do need "exposure" and that my friends has to have a cost.

    wow...

sounds great if it really goes that way. I just haven't personally talked to anyone who has said this is occuring. Sounds to me that this would create a lot more buzz if this concept was really spreading rampantly. I am guessing this "new" trend is just in the beginning stages? Would love to see this as a parent if I had a kid who was wanting to be a part of something like this.

    Free nothing is free.
Pay you get that what you pay for.

It will be like Nascar soon. The ones that get the big sponsors will pull the better players. We all know it is about the kids till you have sponsors who are shelling out thousands of dollars to see their name out there. Paying big money to play is not an old idea. I knew of teams that played AAU at nine in Fl.You paid a tryout fee of $500.00. That was to try out!!! If you made it be ready with another $1500.00. Coaches were paid. You still covered your expenses. And they had big sponsors.

I do not think it is about the scholarship anymore. It is about where it will get you. I know we are all smart enough to figure that if we took all the money we have paid for our kids to play on any number of types of teams out there. Saved it, most would have the money to go to just about any school they wished for in state.

Pay, free, mixed, LL, Legion, High School, Showcase, Travel, high school coach, ex pro, daddyor the bum around the corner. What is right? Let's look at doing what PG has done. Hold top events here in state invite those teams here to play. Look for ways to assist those players that have the talent and not the means. Let's build our East Cobb or Jupiter Fl. I will count this as 1/2 cent to my two cents worth. Saving for mine he is an 08. Have that with your Corn Flakes!!!

What kind of coach do you want?

Spend every weekend away from home.
Motel , Travel , Food expense.
Spend several hours a week lining up the tournements.
Spend several hours a week talking to college coaches about players.

    Now do it for free.

I guess you can get a dad to do it for free. Is that ok?

Plate Dad - Its about where it can get you. What do you mean. Its about creating baseball and school options. Outside of that I dont know what else it can get you.

If you didnt want to pay then you didnt want to play. There are options out there for everyone. If you dont like an option you have the right not to participate in it.

The first question I would ask is why are they starting a new team? Based on the answer to that, one could give a better answer.

Oh...and no slight to OldAngel'sCoach. I forgot to mention him...talking about doing something just for the kids! There is no one better.

After all that has been said, my question to the posters that are continuing to respond. Is it because you are still wanting/needing information on Showcase baseball and the teams? or are you trying to voice your opinion about Showcase?

If it is your opinion...no problem, but please start a new thread

But if it is too gain knowledge...great...keep asking pertinent questions.

The topic was really about a HS coach's concern that HS baseball may become trivialized. A great topic to discuss. But let's not turn this into trying to give showcase baseball a black eye. We have discussed this ad finitum and the bottom line has always concluded that it's not for everyone and it serves a purpose.

It's not a poll on what percentage likes it and who doesn't.

I agree Braves...But I think some of the opinions here come from frustration and knowledge that they have and dont want to see high school baseball change so much.
There is alot of references to the "studs" that play on the elite teams. Thats of the mentality...why eat hambugers and fries here when you can have steak and potatoes some where else? Keep the playing field level....
But that probably is another thread... :auto:
