    liable and slander...

cases are notoriusly difficult to prove damages on but if anyone did this to a kid they are opening themselves up for the easiest $50,000 to $200,000 verdict in the history of the legal profession... the value of a 4 year college scholarship. Anyone who out of the blue called, e mailed or wrote a letter to a college coach to give a poor and unsolicited report on a kid would be prima facie liable IMO. Its the wrong thing to do period but it may also be the dumbest thing... why do you think employers are reluctant to give out info on former employees?

gotta agree with this, but my question is WHY would someone do this and how could it possibly benefit them??? I just cant seem to justify this deed in my mind...

    MEAN and DUMB....

It is not only MEAN and DUMB it is just plain CRUEL! Like Abbey said there is just no reason for it! I have come to see in this world, that there isn't any level, some people won't go to! There just doesn't seem to be that line, anymore, that people won't cross! It is sad but it is also true.
I look at it this way, there must be some reason God put these horrible coaches in our path, to teach us something and to show us what to look in a great coach! Live and learn!

it's not that i'm a perfect man, i make mistakes in my life like everyone else, but it's hard to comprehend these actions when you never let things like this cross your mind. bothsportsdad, karma is a great thing, it has to catch up to these individuals sooner or later....hopefully sooner than later.

    Good things

Good things I have seen in coaches:

Long hours for no financial gain
being a parent for kids that may come from a split family
Picking other parents kids up and taking them to practice and tournaments
Sending countless e-mails to college coaches to get them to come watch a kid and or the team play
Plan budgets, fund raisers, travel, practice, game strategy
Seek sponsors for team or individual kids that may not be able to afford to play
Saying prayer with his or her players
Hugging a kid for a good play or hit
    High fives
Arriving early and staying late for practice to help a kid that is struggling
Going to see parents, kids, or even uncles and aunts that are in the hospital
Explaining to parents why their child did not play as much as Suzy, even after Suzy did not show for practice or did not do as she was told
Taking abuse for all is perceived he did wrong and not one call or handshake for things he did right.
Just giving love and respect to all the kids he coaches and the ones he coaches against
Cheering for all the girls from his area when he can

A few things off the top of my head that I have seen in good coaches which really have nothing or little to do with the on the field game.

    IRONY!!

I truly want to believe that most coaches are in it for the right reasons. And yes we have all went through the above. It seems that when we get to the point where we really wonder why we do it Something good comes along to keep us motivated to keep doing what is right. As I have been following this post and just struggled through a couple of disappointing games this weekend I just received the following email from one of my players parents (I'll call them parents X).

    "Good morning Coach,

We were just looking over the beach pictures that Parent Y gave us yesterday, and we were looking at how happy the girls were building the pyramid on the beach....... it caused us to stop and think about the impact of what it has meant to be a part of the Blast Family. We are grateful to you and "Coaches Wife" for the time and heart that you all give to these girls. The whole experience- laughter, friendship, and discipline (and there's many more) has been so good for Player X, and for that, Parents X are very, very thankful. As a bonus, Parents X have also gained new friends too.

Have a good week and thank you,
    Parents X "

How can any Coach go out there and not continue to be a positive influence on these players and promote the true meaning of sportsmanship, commitment, and dedication, with players and parents like this. These are the Real reasons, I would hope, we get involved in coaching in the first place. On the way home after the last game I was questioning where I went wrong over the last couple of weeks of practice. After I received this email I realized that nothing went wrong in practice it was just one of those weekends, and we have all had them. As they say "On any given day any team can be beaten" Not that we are any powerhouse softball team but we have a pretty decent fundamental team that plays tough and never gives up. We constantly joke about we should change our name to the "Cardiac Comebacks" because of the number of games we have won from the "tie-breaker".

Enough for now, I just wanted to share my good fortune with all of you, because sometimes we seldom get the thanks for the work we put in. This is what makes it all worthwhile.
