Let’s face it people the biggest reason WNC gets shunned in the Shrine Bowl is because
our players get no PR. Wlos could care less obout the NW4A unless Reynolds is winning. The Asheville -Citizen stops on top of Old Fort Mountain and
the Charlotte Observer stops before Burke County. That leaves most of the NW4A in the
    dead zone.

I think you also have to attend one of the Shrine Bowl combines to be named.

I didn't count Crest or AC.

Since 1997 the NW4A has had a total of 6 shrine bowl selections if I counted right.

I know that Alexander Central had 2 last year in OL Josh Reese, and DL Kyle Linney. You sure could make an argument for Cougar QB Josh Russell this year. He has thrown for 2,000 yards with 19 td's and only 3 interceptions. Mighty impressive numbers when you consider that the Cougars have no running game. He is completing 60% of his passes despite everyone knowing that he going to throw on just about every play.

Is Russell even being looked at by any schools? I mean seriously not just the token letter?

I don't beleive that Russell is the type QB that plays in the Shrine Bowl....he's got a great arm but is terribly undersized.

Yes, but That wasn't my point. Most coaches in the NW4A don't seem to help their kids as much as possible. But for Russell's case, size isn't a factor. When the lights come on, on friday nights he takes it to another level. What ever college he does end up at will get a kid with a huge heart and tons of talent. Week end and week other teams know alexander is going to throw the ball, and he still throws for 3 td's and 300 yrds. Thats talent if you ask me. I do know Russell has a visit to app. state planned for this coming weekend.

Josh is a good ball player, but the shrine bowl. I don't think so. I believe we've only had 4 in "forever".
Just thinking back to Butch Clark and what might have been.
