Holding Lofton at 3rd really could come back and haunt them now.

98 to strike out Hafner. Red Sox nation can feel it now, the stadium is going crazy.

Youkilis took out the coca-cola bottle. Him and Pedroia are tearing it up right now.

Question

Obviously, OFFENSE wins....as you guys predicted. And, Dice K was decent enough to hold his own. I still don't think he's worth the $$$$! We'll see how they do against the red-hot Rockies....

Here's my question: What are the "official" conditions of a save?
And, since Papelbon came into the 8th only up 3-2, does he get credit for the save eventhough it has become a blow-out?

Yes, it's a save.... What matters is the situation when the pitcher enters the game, not the final score....

SAVES FOR RELIEF PITCHERS
10.20 Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
(a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
(b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces); or
(c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.

Hey guys, how much money did the Yankees throw at Clemons?

I'll be curious to watch Dice K next year. He lost velocity as the night wore on and seems to tire at about 80 pitches. Mybe that is to be expected but he's having a hard time getting to the 6th inning.

It's a good day to be a Red Sox fan.
