What are you basing your opinion on. Im not saying he should have deff. made it. Im saying he should have been given the chance. Remember stats speak louder than size. Especially while playing behind that OL.

All I know about Russell is that when I watched him play he cost his team the game due to the fact that he never threw the ball away. I watched him run around in the backfield and took the sack before thorwing the ball away couple times throughout the game.

Im not sure what game you were watching, but if it wasn't for Russell the Cougars wouldn't have a win this year!

Russell is a good quaterback but he would not play for app state. I have seen him and heard from the ac fans that he would rather take a sack than throw an incomplete pass.

    Know this . . .

I'm not sure who newcoach42 is, but he sounds like a new coach thats a fact.... or maybe, na probably not a coach at all, but that is not the point... The point is that I have been around this game a long time and seen a lot of players in the NW4A conference including watching a lot of games this year in this particular conference and judging from what AC had last year to what they have this year in talent is a world of difference. For Josh Russell to do what he is done with what is surrendering him is a phenomonal feat to say the least! The point of some unknowledgeable fans of the game at a highschool saying that a player said something is not a source at all! If any1 has watched the games this year it is true that he has ran for his life at times and took some sacks, but thats the point he could not get outside the pocket b/c the pocket collapsed so fast he did not have a chance to throw the ball away, which would have been the same has taking a sack or probably even worse when considering the pentaly for intinial grounding... So learn something about the game before you spout out remarks that make no sense, next time please or just drop your membership at this board. P.S. I know what it takes to play at the next level and Josh Russell has what it takes to make it at that level! He just needs a chance and probably set a year or two and develop more physcialy and when that happens man! - THA REALIST

I am not saying that Russell could not play at the next level. Your right, with what he has done for his team this year is good. What I was saying is that I have seen the level that it takes to be able to come in and compete on the college level. At a place like App right now would be pretty hard. Maybe if he goes there and sits for a couple years he will be good to go but as far as playing as a freshman I doubt it. But I don't want you thinking that I am trying to bad mouth a high school player because I am not. I have played football on the college level so i am just going off of observation. But I do think he could play for a catawba or a college like that almost right away.

Obviously you have no idea what it takes to recieve an acolade of this stature.... and that is what I do, I go around and watch highschool players that do not get or recieve the attention they should and try to help them in this aspect and then set people like you straight. This kid has done things on the football that a lot of players in NC at the QB position could not even think about doing! I have watch several QB's around the state this year and they are all lacking the most vauable aspect of a QB (MOXY) and that is something you can not teach and this kid as that to go a long with great vision and a cannon for an arm... so yes this kid could have possible got this type of acolade considering on how much pub. he has or has not recieved, but that is irrevalant now for sure.

I feel graced just to be in your presence there REALIST. Josh is a good QB watched him for YEARS. He is also a good kid. I guess everyone should just ask you before they express their thoughts about the shrine bowl.
By the way his O-line isn't as good as last years, but they deserve a little credit. Most of the year he has had decent protection. I SAID DESCENT! I've saw a lot worse.
ACHS has never had a QB to make the shrine bowl, and I'm not sure whom I would call the QB from ACHS. Maybe Stan Thomas.

    Good God this turned ugly.

The teams have been picked, theres no changing them....lets move on.....Russell is a great QB and has set records at AC. It's really up to him whether or not he wants to play at the next level.

He has done a great job, and yes everyone knows they will be throwing the ball 75% or more of their plays.......If JR was the QB of a team that was 6-3 and not 3-6 he probably would have gotten more consideration......look at a lot of the kids selected, they are not coming off of teams that have losing records.
