Putt you have a good little feeder club going. Hope that if anything ever changes it will keep going. It is sad that most community's cannot work together for the good of the youth regardless of what type team it is.

Put them where they can have success and where they can be challenged. I agree with dual positions. It never hurts. Most HS players are expected to play two positions.

Hahahaha...I can relate to that. I had Mike Shildt (a premiere hitting coach and now a full time scout for the Cardinals) set up weekly (free) hitting clinics at the local Rec hitting cages......nobody showed up and the coaches were upset that he was invited. I never helped them again.

Let me offer this as a reason. Yesterday's coaches only knew the fundamentals, So that's what they taught- over and over and over. HS coaches taught you absolutely nothing back then. They filled out the lineup card, rolled out the bats and balls and gave a few signs from 3rd base. And on my HS team, we had 4 players that played D1 during a time when they were full scholarships, and we had one that played professionally winning a Cy Young Award. We were taught the fundamentals and learned the specific areas either on our own or when we got to college.

Today's coaches are much different. They know about things like Rotational vs Linear hitting, proper pitching mechanics, pitching and hitting drills. They look for and see minor adjustments to help correct minor flaws. There is so much information available through clinics, video tapes and the Internet.

So I see all the "technical" things being evaluated; "dropping shoulder, hitting through the ball, keep your bat in the zone longer, your drifting on your follow through, etc., etc." Geez...I went to a youth game and heard the coach (probably the father of the batter" yell at the kid, "Hey..let the ball get deep on you". I watched the kid's reaction as that comment went way over his head.

My point is this: I think today's youth coaches are getting way to indepth in teaching the skills needed to play baseball and would be better served to getting back to the basics and to drill fundamentals...not how one will generate more torque in their swing by hitting rotational vs linear swings.

That's why I feel confident in saying that yesterday's coaches were not better, but due to lack of knowledge, they taught the one area that they knew very well....baseball fundamentals....there...that's my point!

Ok lets do it!!! Braves and OAC (sorry had too) get to square off with two new school coaches. D-Backs, One putt, and a guest will decide win. Lets get 24 kids, 10 to 11 year olds, have a tryout. 15 mins after tryouts draft. You have three weeks (gave you some). Only two practices per week. 2.5 hours each (again gave you some) We play. One game LL rules, one game AAU or USSSA rules and last game kids decide. 10% of your score is if you win. The rest is hidden (hint it has to do with baseball). Think that should do it. Sorry no dads.

    Not enough time

to make a difference. It would end up being who drafted the best would win. How about this. We take 30 kids at a tryout. You take the top 15, 11 year old kids. You play every weekend. I take the other 15 and work like heck , practice on fundementals of the game and play one tourney a month. We do this untill they are 15 years old. And then we play this game on a regulation field. Now I kick your butt all over the field and you cant understand what happened. Or can you?

Now must admit. Yours is a little bit of a risk. As some players that have it at 12 may not make it at 15. It would be a sight to see it happen.
