Coach, I see one kid (Wil Myers) this is listed as an Impact player but he is also on the Prepstars website as a Prepstar player. Is this normal? Do kids play for more than 1 team?

Did Wright play something besides HS ball before he pitched 3 innings for Impact?

I think Michael played for Freddy Suggs and the Copperheads before going to the dirtbags. I also heard he was sick during the summer but did play a couple of tournaments this fall with the Copperheads. ECU has been looking at him for a while. The last tourney at ECU was the icing on the cake.

    I have no idea

where or if Wil played before playing with the DB's. He has been with the 08 team all fall and played with the younger guys this summer. As far as Micheal the previous poster is correct Micheal was with the Copperheads for awhile but had mono and missed most of the summer schedule. His first appearance with the DB's was the one at ECU. He pitched this past weekend at Wake Forest and looked very good again. He is going to Jupiter with us as well and were looking forward to a great trip.

One Putt Im sure you are aware of kids switching teams from time to time. There are no set rosters in showcase baseball. Kids switch teams for many reasons many are personal reasons Im sure. We are very lucky in this state that we have several outstanding showcase clubs. The South Charlotte Panthers , The Hurricanes , The Carolina Cubs , The Heat , The Megastars , The Dirtbags and many more. Its a good thing because it gives kids an opportunity to play. And there are more talented players today that can and want to play at this level than in the past.

Hopefully it will not get to the point where we have too many showcase teams the the talent gets watered down. But everything evolves over time into something else. And Im sure that those people that run the quality programs will roll with the times and keep making it even better.

My son is going to be basically done after the Jupiter trip with the exception of a couple of Impact events here locally. It has been a great experience and one that I would not change for anything. Im sure many others feel the same way I do.

Yes, He played on the Jr State Games team (Region 4), a few games of Legion ball (Sick w/Mono), three weekends with Copperheads, 1 weekend with Carolina Cubs and now two weekends with DB. He has enjoyed playing on everyone of these teams. He loves to play the game!

Thanks Coach. That helps. Actually I didn't realize kids switched showcase teams very much. I thought that ended with AAU. I can see it both ways. Thanks for the reply and thanks to Strike Three. Question answered.

    Greensboro Batting Center/Prep Stars

Kirk- It's funny that you posted about Will Myers because The Greensboro Batting Center has been right in the middle of the development of most of the players at The Baseball Academy, Proehlific and Impact. I'm proud that these players are good when they get to these other programs. These programs take credit for their development but we got them YOUNG! Here's our resume. You probably didn't know that so many started with us and a lot ARE STILL WORKING OUT WITH US!!

These are the players off the Impact list on this thread.
Tyler Hanover, Garrison Lassiter, Jason Brown, Will Myers
    Other Notable Impact Players (past/present)
Greg Holt, Jonathan Holt, Ben Bunting, Matt Roberts, Zach Macananey, Nate Cash, Bennett Hickson
    How about these names...
Dallas McPherson, Mitch Atkins, Jake Smith, Matt Brown, Dusty Ackley, Dallas Poulk, Drew Poulk, Trevor Mullins, CJ Beatty, Clint Moore, Jeremy Synan, Lester Rivenbark, Dusty Shutt, Michael Dimock, Kendrick Burney, Cameron Cockman, Austin Moyer, Wade Moore, Travis Moore, Cam Schultz, Tyler Sexton, Scott Riddle, Warren Slack, John Neese, Brandon McKinney, Chad Hockaday, Wesley Wrenn, JK Whited, Zack and Josh Strickland, Nick Rogers, Dustin Mantz, Korey Kinnear, Dustin Johnson, Logan Issacs, Austin Harris, Rhett Ballard, Seth Austin, Tiffany Farley, Allie Marshall, Chelsea Akers, Erica Brown, Morgan Vickers, Nathan Cockman, Tatum Hargett, Alan Craven, Zach Gantt, Lindsay Cross
How about some coaches that came thru GBC as players...
John Barrow, Matt Mabe, Byron Talton, Ryan Earnest, Clay Hooper, Ben Robinson, Keith Shumate
ALL HAVE COME THRU THE GREENSBORO BATTING CENTER!!
I know I have left out some. I tried to name pro players and current college players, woman softball players and high school players that have committed to colleges.
    NOT BAD, EH???

Yep. I had a feeling you would stand and be recognized sometime (as you should). Your place has helped my son. He would not be where he is in HS ball without your help (same for some of his classmates). I've mentioned the training centers in the area many times only to be dissed by 1-2.

It is a given that local training centers and many travel teams in the area have improved players to levels where showcase teams get theirs. I think this is how showcase was started. Travel teams have feed them. I think this is why you now see more showcase teams forming. Back in the mid 90's is about when travel took off here. There were only a few of Instructional base teams. I will not try to mention because I will forget someone. You now see showcase teams expanding young 14U & 15U Showcases???? . It would be nice to see players that move to the next level mention teams, org, coaches, ect...... that were part of their success. Is it right for a team to say this player signed is on this team. Yes. Is it right for them to take full credit for the kids talent. NO!!!! I have not seen that anywhere other than listing them. TRB gives that avenue to others to mention players that are known and less known. Some of these become those showcase players. OAC knows this to be true. The Carolina Mariners and later the Carolina Angels under his leadership had: Chaz Franks(DB), Levi Micheal(DB), Tanner Beck(CH), Ryan Glover(CH),Tyler Coyle(CH), Nick McBride(DB), Matt Batts (SCP) as well as many others that are leaders on their HS teams. And I have probaly forgot some there.. Point being it is not a perfect world and someone will always be left out or behind.

I've been saying all along that the growth of AAU is now hitting the showcase scene. And in Greensboro places like GBC grew the AAU scene. It goes hand in hand.
