No doubt that Kincaid is a baller and has accomplished great feats on the field that is unmeasureable considering his team and still setting state records......I think that is the point they are state records, POY is a conference award.....(Not taking anything away from the kid).....I just think that you give the award considering what has been accomplished in the NW4A....With that said I feel that Russell (AC) has put up #'s at least equal to kincaid's in conference, which lost 17 starters from last years team (AC)..... Not to mention that D's week in and out are geared to stop these two players and have not did so at this point......I think that their is no way you could not give CO - POY when considering what these two kids have accomplished at this level...... Both, great players.......

For POY, i think you have to look at the top teams in he Conference.....after all it is the player who's helped his team win.....That said either EB or Spencer should be considered. IMO

Gawdy numbers on a team with a losing record (to me) don't warrant POY consideration......even if you are setting State records or not.

I agree with you onlooker, but just as I wrote about COY in this thread I believe that sometimes it looks a little more impressive from a coach's and fan's standpoint when you know what is surrendering the POY candidates on their particular teams in talent and still preforming at the level they do.....(also going up against a not so shabby NW4A) I think that you have to weigh this in when considering who should get POY (just my opinion) when you go to vote at the end of the year..... Also, I do think record should be a factor as well, but once again I think you have to consider all factors.......Russell has lead AC into the playoffs and for certain w/ a W against SC this weekend!..... (just my thoughts)..........

David Alger is the LB for Watauga, 2 games of 20+ stops, over 100 tackles while missing 2 games no doubt the kid is a stud.

others nobody has talked about, if nothing else they have to be all conf.

Aaron Bingham at McDowell, I know the D was awful in Marion but this kid is good, not sure his stats but they have to up there with anyone in the conf

Jonathan Dockery at Alexander is another player who stood out, good hitter, no doubt he's broken the century mark in tackles.

Grady McKinney at Watauga 14 sacks on the year (3rd in the state)

coach of the year- reynolds wins friday night it will be coach laws. if watauga pulls the upset i would vote biggerstaff.

offensive player of the year- kincaid stats alone tell the story, if he was at any of the other schools it wouldnt be a question. no matter their(mcdowells) record he is the best offensive player in the conference.

defensive player of the year- dont know the stats exactly for tackles and all that but rudy cabral is my pick. breitenstein is a good athlete at alot of positions but i dont see him as the best at any. watauga fans can be upset but thats my opinion. they are both good and i really have no in depth analysis on either player, just giving cabral the edge. if number 2 for whs got it i wouldnt be at all disappointed.

Okay guys, I've stayed away from this thread for a while but it's time for my two cents worth...

Coach of the Year Biggerstaff-East Burke: East Burke could end up in a 3-way tie for the Championship if Watuaga wins on friday. I think we all thought East Burke would be improved but not too many put them in line to win or share the title. His team was the most discplined of any team I saw this year and that is a direct account of the coach and the job he has done.

Offensive POY Terrance Kincaid-McDowell: People need to quit being jealous of Terrance just because he's the real deal. A teams success does carry weight in determining who is the best player is UNLESS there is someone that just stands out head and shoulders above everyone else. And IMO Terrance does that. I respect Darius Spencer and his ability but Terrance is a step above him at the running back position. Heck, even the colleges that are recruiting these two fine athletes would know that much.

Defensive POY Rudy Cabral-AC Reynolds: I saw about 10 minutes of video on Rudy and that was enough to tell me he is the best defensive player in the NW4A. Linebackers and defensive linemen can dominate the game on the defensive end much more than a corner or safety can.

Here is the list of others that should make All-Conference IMO: (Each team gets to nominate a number of players for All-Conference. There is no such thing as All-Conference 1st and 2nd teams

    McDowell:

Aaron Bingham (LB/RB): Tough nosed players who gave it 150 percent while being seriously undersized at his position.

Matt Amerto (ATH): To Matt's credit, he was all over the place this year starting at receiver, then to QB and then back to receiver. Hopefully next year if he could play a whole season at wide out, he can produce.

    East Burke

Tyler Shatley and Jake Frogge: Scary to think Shatley could come back next year. He has Saturday afternoons written all over him in a couple of years. He weighs 251 and can run.

    Freedom

Collin Taylor (K): Freedom has always been known to produce some kids that can kick field goals. Taylor nailed a 43-yard shot at McDowell that would have been good from 50 yards.

    Alexander Central

Josh Russell (QB): Granted their offense was designated to be pass-heavy Harrington has put together a very impressive season.

    South Caldwell

Josh Collins and Rob Purus: Not much been said about the Spartans since conference play got going but these two kids are solid contributers to their team.

    Watuaga

Eric Brietenstein (RB/S): A very good player on both sides of the ball. His offensive production is not as much as last year because the Pioneers are throwing the ball more. Eric has followed a breakout junior season with a very solid senior campaign.

This is Frogge's senior year. Shatley will have one more, hopefully at East Burke. There is the possibility he could go to Draughn.

    A MISTAKE!

BIGDAN...... Dustin Harrington has not QBed at AC in a while big guy.....It is pretty sad that JOSH RUSSELL (25 carrer starts) is the kids name and is in the top 3 in the state in passing with 2300yrd / 22 TD's and 5 INT's and people are calling out a kids name that already graduated....and know the kickers name from Freedom (even thou good).....sad......., but thought I would clear that up.....

Coach of the Year: East Burke <or> ACR
both are winning and maybe doing alot more than was expected with thier teams. (East Burke is definitely doing way more - might be deciding factor)

    MVP's:

Offensive MVP's: 'Buggy' Kincaid <or> Josh Russell
kincaid's finished, but russell still has at least one game left (possibly more), wait and see what he can do for them in these games. They both have 5,000 yards of offense - great accomplishments. Both of these kids were/are the number one item every defense worries about and design's there game plan around - and they still perform and exceed.

    Defensive MVP's: Eric Breitenstein
great athlete, makes almost every tackle he commits too, and a lot of them
