It does seem that the teams playing at Bamford were "artificially" chosen.

But if your girls have contacted coaches, have their cell phone numbers, etc... they can update them on their where abouts. Our coach had the cell phone numbers of the coaches that had committed to looking at some of the girls and he was texting and calling them constantly to keep them up to date on our location. They showed up no matter where we played. The coaches were there to see girls that had planned on being seen. From what I could tell, there are few "discoveries" made at these tournaments.

The players must do their homework ahead of time or these tournaments are not as valuable.

I agree that the fields were not well prepared to play on. We played on one field where they had to keep moving the portable fence between two fields that shared an outfield(must have been to "T" ball fields). I swear that the fence was only at 150-175 feet. They ran out of "kitty litter" and could not keep up with the rain, closing more fields as time passed. Overall, was the tournament worth the trip... absolutely.

Half the coaches that committed to coming to our games did. Other half of course did not. They knew in advance where we were playing. Most players aren't discovered. They contact and then the coach comes. Players have to do the contacting and constantly update coaches. If you got 30+ coaches in attendance at game at Bamford, all those coaches weren't contacted by players playing in that game at that time. January they had shuttles to take college coaches to other parks. Don't think they had that this past weekend.

Didnt mean to imply you guys with my comment... it was more a general comment. With the changing schedules, I am sure the college coaches had their hands full also trying to make game commitments.

    Lady Blues Gold/Legacy Gold

We were only able to get 2 games in due to the rain. Actually only played a total of 9 innings. We still were able to get the girls in front of many college coaches. Nice thing for us was we were on the main complex and played on Field 8 which is the 2nd best field to be on. This was due to our past success and previous players.

We had a wide variety of coaches at both games. NC State, UNC, Virginia, Va Tech, GA Tech represented the ACC. Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi St. from the SEC. We also had Oklahoma State ,College of Charleston, UNCC, UNCG, Elon, UT Chattanooga, St. Josephs, Lehigh University, James Madison, Radford, Dartmouth, Harvard, West Point, Central Florida as well as many others.

In game 1 we played the Wichita Mustangs Gold who beat us 2-0. They are a regular at the Gold Nationals. We played very well this game had several opportunities to score just couldn't get that key hit. Had many balls hit hard, but right at people. Kalie Lang and Morgan Hopper handled the pitching this game.

In game 2 we played the Jacksonville Storm Gold. We lost 4-3 in this game. Were on the short end of an umpires call that cost us 2 runs, but that's part of the game. That's why we play. Constance Orr and Erin Foster both hit homeruns this game. Kalie Lang and Morgan Hopper once again handled the pitching duties.

Overall was a good Saturday. Saw some continued growth in many young players. Happy with how we hit the ball. Every player got quality field time. We hit every player in the lineup both games as well as made changes on defense every 2 innings. We switched pitchers at will to make sure everyone got quality looks from the coaches. Our main goal was not to win, but to make sure all our kids got showcased. I feel we did a great job doing that. Sometimes as coaches we forget what our priority is at these tournaments. I was very pleased with the coaches we had watching and the showcasing we were able to do. That is why we attend these showcases. To put them in front of as many coaches possible.

Please explain to what "artifically" chosen means? It looks like it was the same teams in New Jersey, Batbusters, Houston etc. Also, these are gold national teams. I guess you need to play the that schedule to be on the fields. This is my assumption but it looks like you can not go from the local circuit and then hit one big tournament and be disappointed you do not get to play on the best field.

    Paying Dues

Got to pay them dues, but there definiately is some politics involved. But remember it's all about getting them seen. Coaches will come if you do your homework, but they have to know your interested in their program.

    Fields Etc

This debate on fields certain teams get and politics, etc is humorous. If U are the new kid on the block in a job, U have to earn the respect and prove your worth to move up the ladder. If you are the new kid in a play etc., U have to earn your way into a bigger role, if you are the new business, U have to fight for customers and prove you are a better alternative to your competition which has more experience or longer in business. Explain to me why softball should be different and new teams should be given what other teams spent years to acheive? The Cardinals have been going to Nationals for 10+ years I believe and the Blues for four straight, no other NC team has gone more than once, Cobras and Triangle Ltg. Until the last couple years, U had to earn your way into Dynamites by proving U could beat the top teams and by going to ASA Nationals, playing the tough showcase events when U could get in and winning or placing in States, year after year. It took the Blues two years to get a spot in Dynamites, three years for Colorado and then had to win a qualifying tournament to get in the big show! Is there some favortism in some cases, sure. There is also some in life! There are a number of good teams in NC and yes some of them should and could play on the better fields but U earn your turn over time. You prove year end and year out, no matter who heads to college, U have a quality product. Until this past year, the Blues had only allowed one college player to play with us in Nationals or qualifier, Meredith O'Connor. She was one of the original Blues and her Dad helped start the organization. We earn our spot each year with what we have in place. Will we everytime, probably not, but we will continue to believe that we have to earn our way and no one needs to give us an edge. That said, we have earned our ability to play on some of the better fields due to our performance at the particular tournaments. We continue to hope we can get on Field #7 at Plantation, the top field in Colorado but know we have to continue to perform to reach that goal.
Best to all the NC teams, there are at least a dozen now that can play with the "Big Dogs" and I am proud of the effort by the coaching and young ladies to become "players" on the national level. Let's all work together to get the state known as a "hot bed" for talent. Don't get caught up in all the other junk.

Shame on you, Abbey Fan.....you appear to be suggesting that teams have to EARN their way to the good tournaments and the good fields.

Are you nuts???? That's not the way our society works anymore....
