Sunday, UNC-Wilmington played the second and third game of their fall ending Blue/Teal world series. Freshman Alex Hill teal team lost both games. His teal team now trails two games to 1 as they go into the final two games. Alex is 5 for 10 in the first 3 games. The thing that i have notice, is how much bigger he has gotten since school has started.

 

Wait til next year; you won't recognize him.

 

The day my son crossed the college threshold, he weighed 175. His senior season, he played at 205. I'd estimate that 2/3 of the increase was in his legs.

 

But here is the strange part; While Woody gained 30 lbs of muscle during his 4years, his father lost an equal amount of weight. Why is that? The stress of having to watch a weekend series in Miami?

 

Waching Woody pitch was not stressful at all. Pounds the zone with strike after strike. Letting Blue know at thing or two while being escorted beyond the gate by some of Miami's finest might be a reason or the cause of the weight loss... Miami umpires just do not appreciate good comentary. Clayton, you are the MAN! This year, the Carolina family will just not be same.

Probably should have been more discreet in my post. In any case, the entire Woodard entourage will be greatly missed. Maybe we can coax Clayton down to Miami this year to keep the locals in check...

By the way Clayton was in very good company that evening!

As you can tell from my great SC education, I was rushing out the door when I posted my reply. But I'm glad, 246, you understood my intent

Clayton is a world renowned traveler, so I wouldn't be surprised to find out he will be in Miami, but my question is...will he be in disguise? To this date, I bet that umpire remembers him vividly...as does Coach Fox

 

LOL...There you guys go again...digging up dirt unnecessarily. Why, I've only completed my community service with the league office in the last month or so as a result of that little disagreement down in Miami! All because I simply suggested to the 3rd base umpire that he might get a kick out of watching the replay of his (horrible) check-swing call when he got home that night.

Many thanks for the kind words, 246; but, be careful what you wish for. I'm like a bad cold and will probably be hard for the Carolina Baseball Family to get rid of. After all, UNC's finally playing in a "pitcher's park" this coming season, and I want to witness that on a first-hand basis!

As for that "little disagreement down in Miami" in 2006, I'm not sure who was the more surprized: me when the umpire tossed me or Coach Fox (who had already been ejected) when I joined him down by the left field foul pole! Of course, it wasn't long before Coach Forbes made our little group a threesome, and it was starting to get sort of crowded down there! I think it might have been Good Ole 246 who subsequently referred to that area as the "Ejection Section."

P.S. Before Robert's start against Miami this past season, he very uncharacteristically said something to me as he walked from the bullpen to the dugout. Without breaking stride, he glanced my way and said," Try to stay in this one, will you, Dad?"

 

That is such a funny story.....and oh so true

Speaking of something funny, I understand during Robert's "downtime" he has been practicing his coaching skills with a, shall we say, "less than an enthusiastic" group of players. I hope they don't scare him away from coaching
