Sorry. Not intended to slam anyone, nor were my comments aimed at anyone ,but were general. I just think sometimes perspective needs to be evaluated, and what are we saying to our kids. Life is tough, lets teach them to handle the situation, make the best of the cards they are dealt, and learn to handle the adversity. Life is not about how much baseball they learn, and from who. But it can be a great tool to assist them to get places they might not normally get, give them opportunities they might not normally have. Is basing school choices on athetics the right message? In some cases it may be depending on a situation, but I have to believe that probably not most.

I've been consistent in my belief, so I'm not saying this to get any responses. My belief is "I don't care. I don't care that he transferred, I don't care for his reasons and I won't ask him why. I just figure that's his business. I just welcome him to the team, hope he can help and move forward".

For me to be involved in any other way, speaks more about my lack of character than anything he did.

I was with you on that. But it did strike a spark in my mind. Here is something that will get you to think. As I stated I had to look at this earlier this year. Was going to have to move due to job. I have a Daughter in middle school and plays Travel softball. Son was a rising senior. Keeping not only baseball, friends and college in mind. Where we were moving the state said if due to a job you need to reside 6 months. Looking at the choices of schools there we decided that our son would stay here his senior year. Now, if he stayed we would have had to transfer guardianship over to my sister with lives in anaother county and school system. Although, our county will accept an out of county student but it is rare at the HS level. So even doing things the right way would have cause a lot of hardship for him. My dautghter is a member of the volleyball team and is try to get up a middle school softball team. She would have to have moved leaving friends and sports behind and start over. Luck we did not move.

I see your point, however, you get pretty much the same education at all the schools to an extent. There are schools that are better than others academically as well as athletically, I don't want to give the impression that there isn't. BUT, I think you can actually do both, choose a school that fits you athletically and academically. But I know in my area, any one school is just as good as another so academics are a moot point there. So, if academics are equal and athletics are a priority, you should be able to choose which school you'd like to attend.

Interesting question, since academics are brought up...can an academically gifted student that desires to attend a magnet school attend any school they like? If so I'm sure they have to pay something, but is that fair to say students can go to a certain school for one reason but make it extremely difficult to go for another reason. How does this situation work? If it's not allowed in athletics, it should not be allowed at all I don't think, because they are just discriminating against athletics if that is the case.

Right on Braves. So the rule should be let em play where they want. What harm is in it? If you sit out because someone takes your place on a team, you can always pick up and go somewhere else too. People do it, legal or not. A HS team wants to win. No matter what it takes.

Not sure I agree with the the comparison of magnet school vs. athletics. Again, what is life about? Academics. I wish life was about baseball, it is for the very small few. I think if you have the choice going in, and all things being equal, great. Transferring for the sake of athletics is what my questioning of this thinking is about. Again, certain circumstances make it a good move. I told my son when choosing a college, "When you walk on campus could you go here if you were not playing sports". You need to feel at home off the field, as well. In high school, baseball is 4 PM to 6 PM practice and 7:00 PM games for three months, all after school - is that what the school decision should be based on. Look, I'm not trying to be righteous on this subject, just looking at the entire "life" experience and how does baseball supplement life, not the other way around. Most kids don't have the opportunity for "the other way".

I have to run my daughter to basketball practice. Enjoyed the diferent perspectives, ideas, and thoughts on this. Everone's intentions are probably good, but there are some "sicko's" out there that think, "damn my kid, what do I want".

Schools change. Some schools that were top academic schools years ago and the lowest scroing schools today. Some of the top athletic schools years ago arent even competition anymore. That is what causes some people to move. But in some cases the schools are good , the team is good , but for some reason, it isnt good enough for a player so he moves. It ususally is a conflict with a coach , playing time or other reasons. THAT is up to the family. But what about when a player is on a team and is ineligible? Its self promoting and wrong and it poisons a team, esp. moral and fairness. and what it teaches.

No, I'm not saying that. There are rules and I trust the coaches, AD's and others that make it their business to enforce will do that, but not me. That's not my job nor my business.

and I'm not for the school that says, "We want to win, no matter what it takes"...and I don't believe you really mean that in its entirety. :22_yikes:
