After reading a bunch of posts on here, and reading a lot of yours I'm disappointed that you would even make that last statement. I also, from what I can tell by reading your posts, know that you didn't mean any disrespect towards anyone. But I have the following to say about that.

Sometimes kids aren't the smartest kids in a classroom, or get the best SAT/ACT scores, but they do succeed. In athletics and in life. I had the chance to coach a kid once that was VERY slow mentally. He didn't have the grades to go to a 4 year school out of high school, but he had the talent to on the baseball field and he was willing to work as hard as it took to be successful. He played two years at a juco, then transferred to a four year school and played two more years. After his senior season, he graduated with a degree. I've lost touch with him now, so I'm not sure what he's doing, BUT, if anyone had taken your advice on him he'd be sitting without a college degree doing who knows what.

Sometimes kids may not have the grades for a four year school for reasons other than being lazy. And with the amount of GREAT junior colleges in North Carolina and surrounding states, I think it is doing a misjustice to not mention a player that is unsigned just because he doesn't have the grades. I know for a FACT that some of the JUCOs in Region X look on here. Any scout recruiting a player should at least be talking to the coach before going to see them play. Let them find out then that the kid doesn't have the grades. But those JUCOs might get a name or two that they can give the kid an opportunity, and he later on becomes a player that can play at a four year school and also get a college degree.

    Excellent Players

Andrew Miller (Ardrey Kell) -- Good left handed pitcher. Great mound presence, cannot rattle him, hits his spots very well. Good contract hitter
Great Student (high GPA and SAT).

Brett Nyenhuis (Ardrey Kell) -- Switch hitter with excellent power from the left side. Very solid infielder with great range. He also is a great student (high GPA and SAT)

Tony Hearrell (Butler) -- Good right handed pitcher, will be one of the top pitchers for Butler. Good contact hitter and good outfielder with speed.

Hahaha...Coach Martin scoops up anyone he wants in Florida, but there are quite a few here that he would love.

Wow Braves.. Me and you have been into some serious trouble lately! Where's the respect for old peoples opinions.. I suspect they think we should sit back and watch the young bulls run down the hill.. They probably don't know us very well.. Old bulls RULE! :wheelchair:

You brought up a very good point and I did a very poor job in qualifying my thread. I have spent the past two weekends talking with college recruiters at the DI and DII level. I asked them if I could help them in any way. They suggested posting a list of players that are unsigned with the hope that a surprise would appear that they weren’t aware of. When I told them I would do that and have members post the players, all of them said, “make sure they qualify academically. It will save us all some time”….and I told them I would.

I made the assumption that most unsigned players were looking for scholarship offers and I was hoping that this thread might help.

I will celebrate any player that overcomes obstacles to achieve their goal to get a college degree, but the schools that are offering scholarships are not looking for those players.

But I agree with your statement. I made the decision of trying to help the scholarship schools out with the purpose of helping the players in return. It was never my intention to hurt any player, so it would have better served for any player to not be excluded.

OAC- I don't concern myself too much about wondering who I may have offended..as long as its not the players. Wolfpack brought up a great point and was right to bring it to the open forum. I have a personal opinion about student athletes but this is not the thread for that.

    Some more 08's

Ryan Waldrep 6'5" LHP South Brunswick HS
Middle 80's guy Ive seen him upper 80's at times. Big strong kid with a load of upside. He needs some work on his offspeed stuff but at times it is very good. Sometimes his control is outstanding and sometimes he struggles a bit with his control. He has the potential to be an outstanding college pitcher. Hey 6'5" LHP's that run it up there in the mid 80's to upper 80's dont grow on trees. Someone is going to be very lucky to snatch up this young man. Great kid and an outstanding student.

Wesley Mister 5'10" LHP Cedar Ridge HS
This kid can pitch. He is not an overpowering kid from the hill but runs it up there in the lower 80's. He has a nice change up and spins a pretty decent deuce. He is a competitor on the bump bigtime. There is no doubt that this young man can help someone at the next level. I love his make up and his ability to throw strikes.

Kahlin Villines 5'10 INF Riverside HS
Very athletic kid that has a good arm. He can swing it from the right side as well. Above average runner with good infield actions. He can also play the outfield and is just an overall good athlete that can play. Very competitive player that gets after it hard. One of the better inf prospects in the Pac 6 conference.

Jake Dailey 6'6" RHP Cedar Ridge HS
Big boy who can bring it from the hill. Upper 80's fb with life. Change up is good , cb needs a little work. Competes on the bump. Big upside with Jake. He is only going to get better and has a great pitchers body.

With Maness gone to ECU (and doing quite well) He will be the go to guy for them along with LHP Jeremy Evans. Also a sleeper to look out for Grayson Goodman RHP/SS from Richmond County. Recently on the gun at 88-90 real time or 93-95 internet speed (lol)

Ian Haynes, Tunstall (Va.) ~ Solid outfielder with well above average speed and he tracts the ball well. At the plate, he is a good contact hitter with occassional power. When he reaches base, you can almost guarantee a SB, if not 2.

Brett Underwood, SW Guilford ~ this fall played SS for the NCBA. Good hands, above average fielder that covers alot of ground. Handles the bat well, advances runners, and hits for a good average. Probably led the NCBA for batting average in the fall. Also has above average speed. Excellent student.

Jeremy Hall, SW Guilford ~ Excellent outfielder that tracks the ball as well as anyone I have seen. Not much gets by him. At the plate, he has good power from the left side, and hits alot of line drives. Above average speed and an excellent student.

Eric Presnell, NW Guilford ~ Great utility player that can catch, play 1b and OF. Great glove wherever you put him. He knows how to make big plays. He doesn't have a rocket arm from behind the plate, but he is very accurate. Handles the bat well with occasional pop. Excellent student.

Sammy Lucas, W. Forsyth ~ 2b with good hands and feet. Knows how to turn a double play. Fun kid to watch play...he gets after it...very gritty ball player.

I realize that I am just a mom, but can guarantee that I have been at the ball field my entire life and do know about the game. However, I am sure you can call the high school coaches that these young men have played for or Scott Bankhead at NCBA and they can give you more detail. Eric is the only one that didn't play for NCBA this past fall.
