I would say this. So Im going to.

I really completely agree with everything you said. If I had 10-12 ball players like the ones you mentioned nothing could be impossible. If these young fellows are not OFFERED an opportunity to play college ball I would tell them if they are serious, to walk up to a college coach at a practice and get a tryout. No tap dancing. Go out and GET IT!!! Does not work that way? oh I think it makes a blazing statement. Sometimes you have to grit things out and create your own opportunities. We would all like to have our players get offered a scholarship. Not all will. But if they still want to play ball then they will have to make there way. It has been done before. It can be done. And yeah its even a longer shot this way but it is still a way.

As far as the "Moms." They study everything. Mom's are the bedrock. I see more Moms at ball fields than I do Dads. The only true students of the game. They watch everything including the coaching!

    Disclaimer-father here

Hunter Bacot -- rhp/of -- hits from left side. 6'3" 170lbs. Consistent fb 86 (stalker, bumped 90 on jugs in summer area code tryout); just developed a consistent change-up this fall; still working on breaking ball, i.e., has a slurve, but needs tighter spin (for next level). fb is live with movement. Will be main pitcher on team this spring. Hits o.k. consistent 7.1 to 7.3 in the 40. From Cary, but plays for the Miller School in Va (prepschool near Charlottesville, which is similar to 2-A ball here; coached by former UVa assistant/pitching coach Sammy Beale). Excellent student, 3.0 & 1160 SAT (math/verbal). Contact: 919-623-6411

Tyler Moore, Watauga high school, RHP- 6"5, 200lbs. Thowing mid 80's with some good offspeed. Throws sidearm as well as 3/4 which makes him hard to pick up with 6 pitches. He works his hard for every advantage he can get.

As a relative new guy ( 4 years) to the Charlotte baseball scene - I have to ask this question.

With no disrespect to any of the players mentioned here - including my own son - how is it possible that Aaron Plummer isnt verbally committed yet?

I have seen a whole bunch of MIF's - over the last 4 years - who are now committed. And virtually none of them even come close to Plummer.

    Not even close.

With the exception of the UNC's and Clemsons and a few others - I guess I will never understand what goes on around these parts - but my guess is that either the coaches dont get out enough - or they are just clueless when it comes to scouting and recruiting.

Sorry for the bluntness - but it just makes no sense to me.

    Just ridiculous IMO.

Why one player is seen, heard and talked about more sometimes is a strange thing. I have heard of players. That are never looked at in HS and go on to walk on and get more playing time than those recurited. As a parent that has one that is a good player and has played with a lot of those players that have already verbally committed. All I can say is look at your choices send those coaches an email with a player profile, workout and game tapes (no highlight reels) send it to them. Let them know where you are playing, showcase, travel or HS wherever. If you do not then no one else may. Hey if you have to toot your own horn just make sure that what you blow is the truth no icing. Figure it this way if ten coaches are looking for pitchers they are going to go after the top first. That outfielder that makes the plays will maybe not be noticed at that time. But, it will come back around. Coaches talk and share more than the outside people think. You some times have to go look for the job, don't let the job come to you.

Plate Dad - IMO - you give great advice for folks entering the wonderful world of college baseball recruiting for the first time.

However - I am not one of those folks.

Although I am now - officially - a baseball know-nothing - and a transplant to boot - whose words mean absolutely nothing - I dont think you got the point of my post.

I thought it was very direct.

My point was very simply - how can this kid not be all set yet?

In our supposed advanced baseball environment here in NC - how is it possible?

IMO - He is better than any 2008 MIF I have seen from these parts - period.

    Excellent Players

Plummer isn't the only infielder that is not getting noticed. There are a couple of execellent infielders in the SW4A that are under the radar. A couple from Ardrey Kell (Nyenhuis, Eaker). There are also a few others out there.

Sorry!!!! Then I guess there is something that coaches are seeing that they do not want or like. Or maybe he has had offers and chooses not to make a choice. Or maybe he choose to not put his self out there. I do not get sometimes why a player is picked over another. It is not my team or my job to do in the first place. But I know it would not serve any coach to look at the best player in the state and pass them up unless there is some that is not right. But that is my opinion.

Guys there are a lot of good players that are on the coache's chip board. The fact is it is that there are few spots at the next level and coaches have more players to choose from. There are roughly 37 or so NCAA D-I,II,III schools in the state on NC that have baseball programs. And I guess a couple of hundred HS that have baseball programs. Now, if each NCAA school needed 10 players per team, that is three hundred seventy some spots. If they get half the palyers from NC the rest from out of state. How many HS players that can play at the next level will get to play? It is a numbers game and the fact that a player is not choosen is not anything we have control over. All we can do is put out the info and if they make it great. If not we did what we could do.
