We played the Chiefs in Lenoir at the old park that has the hill on the right side in the late 70's.A player hit a fly ball that know one seen and the plate umpire called it a homerun!!That was back when Semi Pro ball was really big in the state.

I think the biggest of all times is the Yankees not keeping Torre. I'm no fan but got to go with the record.

On our 14 year old travel team, we were tied with 1 out bottom of the last inning. Our cleanup batter was up with 2 strikes and the winning run on third. He swings and misses, the catcher missplays the ball, the ball goes to the backstop and the winning run scores. While we are celebrating, the batter is arguing that he foul tipped the ball. Now that was bonehead.

That is so funny...on many levels. Glad there weren't 2 outs or he may have had to walk home.

At the old Drexel High School we were playing Glen Alpine in a JV game and were leading by 1 point. As the clock expired the guard handling the ball threw it back over his head from about half court. The ball went in Glen Alpine's basket. Helluva shot. They won by one point. This was prior to the 3 point play. Just a few years ago. We damn near killed KR.

golfing in my usual dog fight on sunday, par three, 165 yards. at the tee, hit the ball, and as i'm starting my down swing to the ball, i hear a click. sprinkler went off on the tee box and i got it right in the face, knocked my glasses off and all four of us rolled on the ground laughing. the drive......8 feet from the pin.....but not worth the drenching.... we still talk about that and i'm a little nervous when we play that course.

post 501 we were in the field, bottom of ninth in game 5 of 7 game series in the playoffs tied 2-2. We were up by one and they had runners on second and third. i was playing center field and one of my buddies was playing left. we hadnt made many errors all year but first thing i know routine fly ball to me and i try to be cool bc i know it will be the game winning catch and i drop it. one run scores to tie the game and runner on second advances. then the next batter hits about the same fly ball but to the left fielder and he also drops it. i have never been cussed out so hard by a pitcher in my life.

    Sorry.

I was rereading some of this and it had me rolling. Wouldn't mind for some more laughter.

    This is hilarious.

I was calling a game from the plate once. Youth league 11-12. Extra innings. Winning run at third. Kid hits it to short who launches it to home. Split second play. Runner slides. Catcher makes catch and applies tag. Runner was safe. I called him as such. Coach runs out of dugout in my face and says he was out. I called him out and left the field.

Not bone-head but with that much drama I left it to the coaches and parents.

    He was safe though.

    One of my favorites too

Gloveside. The post by canofcorn reminds me of a similar incident a few years back. But this time it was not a player it was a coach. We were in a tight game against a conference opponent. The score was tied and the go ahead run was on third with two outs. One of our hitters hits a swinging bunt and it appears it may have hit his foot. Our runner busts down the line and beats it out as the go ahead run scores. Coach F3 and I look up and our 1B coach is already at home plate and he is going off. "Our you blind can't you see it hit him in the box!" We were in shock. The umpire looks over at us and puts his hands out like "what the heck!". Thank God he let the play stand. Needless to say he caught it pretty good when he got back to the dugout. Its funny now but at the time lets just say what a bone head play.

One of the cardinal rules of coaching,,, "Never make 1st out of inning at 3B or homeplate"...
    ---------------------

I once saw an AAU coach get all 3 runners thrown out at homeplate in SAME inning.

    No,,, lie.
