I just got a phone call from the dad of one of the top 08 HS players in the state of Florida. He told me his son verballed to Belmont Abbey today. I will let them release the players information when they feel it is appropriate. But I saw the kid this summer at EC and at Jupiter and he is a flat out stud. This is a huge catch for these guys. Congrats!

dadgummit $%$@#$%....congratulations to Coach Smith and Anderson. The word is this kid is a major stud that easily could be playing for any D1 school in our state.

I swear, Belmont Abbey may be forced to move up to D1. The talent that they have brought in the last two years is phenomenal....it ain't fair :boxing_smiley:

This isn't by accident. I don't know many people in baseball that work as hard as Chris Anderson does. I couldn't be happier for him. If anyone deserves it, it's him. I'm shocked that no one has picked him up to be there head guy yet.

I agree...and I believe Chris will tell you I'm one of his biggest supporters. In fact, if LR found out how big a supporter I am...they would probably ban me from their school.

    why not?

why do you think not going to a Div 1 for this "stud"? I know everyone must seek out their comfort level in a college choice, but when the best players don't go Div 1 it leaves a doubt.

Unfortunately, Florida does not have enough DI schools to offer scholarships to all the outstanding players they have in that state. They let one get away and Belmont Abbey is stronger for that.

But here is one of the differences in players between states. There are so many oustanding players in Florida that they appreciate any opportunity they receive to continue to play baseball at the next level. Sometimes you get the impression that players in NC expect it...and if they don't play DI baseball, then people suggest to start doubting their ability, which is so far from the truth that it's laughable.

I would agree with you on that. The more I get in this college exploration I am finding that sometimes the differance is only about money for scholarships. I am not 100% on this to be a D-1 school you must fund so many scholarship. Some D-II schools have great programs and records. So even beat D-1 schools. They just wish not to invest the money. I would love see list of players that go on to college. Their 1st choice where they end up going and do they play. I beat we will find that a lot that do not get their frist wish. They go somewhere else. Some go and do not play.

    Congratulations

Welcome aboard to the young man from Florida he'll be in good company as there are several players from florida on the roster.

I think the line between DI and DII will get even smaller as the new scholarship rules go into effect. You'll see a lot more guys not riding the pine at the DI and will instead be on the field at a DII.
