Just found out that the local newspaper here has instituted a new policy in which they do not cover non-Division I signings.
    What does that leave?
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the only other division that has NLI signings is Division II?

This bothers me. I feel like the paper is saying to the boys who have chosen to accept scholarships at D2 schools--too bad and we cannot waste our time on a lesser division announcement.

I am interested in what people think. Is this policy found all around the state?

It's the Rocky Mount Telegram. The same paper that will not list stats for visiting teams, even when presented to them. The same paper that decided not to start covering local baseball until conference play started. The same, "morning" paper that usually arrives at my house after 9:00 am. I could go on.

Write letter(s) to owning parties, manager, editor, reporters and even the advertisers (they foot the bill) let them know your dismay. Start a drive to not get the paper. Remember freedom of speech works both ways. You are the consumer. If you go to the store for ice cream and they do not have it. You go somewhere else. Let them see paper sells starting to reduced and I will say you will see it printed. And remember TBR is a great place and reaches further than just about any paper.

    Unbelievable

A2662G and SoutherNo1.....I am totally with you on these issues. Would you like me to take it to the higher ups and see if I have any luck? This is just an awful shame!! I do remember that Joseph Keel got a nice picture and writeup when he signed with Mars Hill. Unreal. I guess I am lucky that the paper covers the Non-important Stretchlon Stars so well. Unreal.

The Hendersonville paper used to do the same thing, til they changed sports editors. We now have a sports editor that loves to promote the kids achievements. Not just baseball but all sports. Glad we have him.

And you guys think you have it bad.

Our local paper is awesome. Here is an example of a write up of one of our games. #33 for he home team struck the ball and it landed in the grass. #3 ran all around the bases and scored a point for the home team. #21 Pitched the ball real hard and many of the players on the other team missed it. The home team scored 9 points and the other team scored 1 point. Here is a picture of Joey , he caught a 7 lb bass at Mr Wilkins farm pond yesterday.

Now before call bs on this one just ask Coach F-3. It is the same paper that prints two entire pages of write up with color pictures of the local rec league during our run into the third round of the state playoffs. And there is no article on the HS teams games. "Thankfully" I might add.

We are located between Raleigh and Durham. The Herald Sun for Durham and the Raleigh News and Observer for Raleigh and Durham. The Herald Sun does a pretty good job of covering HS baseball but nearly as good as football. The Raleigh News and Observer does a pretty good job as well. But again it could be so much better.

I think its a shame this paper has this policy. Something should be done about it. But we had one sign with UNC this year and another sign with NC State. No mention of any of it in the this paper. But again its probaly a good thing because.

#33 Will play baseball at Carolina. Hes a big boy that strikes the ball hard. #21 Will play baseball at NC State. Hes a big boy that pitches hard. Joey caught another 7 lb bass at Mr Wilkins farm pond yesterday.

I bet Joey's his son, but you didn't follow up in the editorial of the paper. It went into much more detail of "Joey's Adventure"

"The sun was starting to set on a clear crisp spring night. The sparkling lake showed no sign of a breeze as the water shined like glass through a prism. Young Joey knew that he picked the perfect day to catch a trophy bass and his heart was palpitating with excitment........................

Joey concluded his perfect day of fishing by raising his "monster" to the sky and thanking the god's of nature for providing an experience of a lifetime.

I would also like to congratulate two baseball players from our area, Jeff Moy and Pat Maynard. I heard they are going to college."

Yep, town newspapers keep everybody informed on HS sports.
