First of all let me clear one thing up. I did NOT say that the former president wasn't supporting the baseball program. He started the baseball program. I only stated that the new president is 100% behind the baseball team in case someone had heard about the trouble we had over the last few years.

There were rumors going around that BRCC would not even have a team this coming year. Well we do have a team and I hope we keep having a team in the future. As for the newspaper articles, you don't have to tell me about them I had to read them every day as that is my hometown newspaper. I'm not sure you can believe all you read in that paper about BRCC, the baseball team, or the president. Not that the reporting was untrue but there were alot of editorials ( not including letters to the editor) but editorials from the newspaper editors themselves that were very negative about the president and BRCC even having a baseball team. The editors of our paper do not think BRCC should have a baseball team. It has been rough around here for us over this last year.

Dr. Sink was our president and had been since 1987. He himself went out into the community and to the board of trusties to get support to start the baseball team. He fought to keep a team here and I believe he is still fighting to keep one here. As for the facts about what happened I don't think we will ever know but if what the paper said had happened really happened I think someone would have been arrested.

I know most of TBR doesn't know about the situation we had and I wish I had been more confortable with posting on here then because I really needed to vent this past spring and summer until we got a new coach.

We the parents and the players had to play last season not knowing whether we would have a team and if we did what kind of coach we would have. Like I said rumors went around that we would not have a team. It was gut wrenching. The players were contacting other schools about transfers in case we didn't have a team. It was hard to concentrate just on playing.

Dr. Sink assured us that we would have a team and he held true to his word. We have a team. Our head coach is Brandon LaDuc, assistants are Chris Ebright, Mike Greene and some others will join in this spring. Coach LaDuc was the coach at St. Clair Comm Coll in Michigan last year. He had coached in western NC some over the years and moved back this summer to coach.

As for the geography lesson..... everything east of Charlotte is east to us out here in the far west. Raleigh is a long way away for us but it is also evident when Hendersonville High had to travel 5 hours to Raleigh to play the western regional finals in volleyball a few weeks ago that the powers that be in Raleigh think that Raleigh is in the West. What do you think about that one. When we live in a state the size of NC we tend to confuse east and west. I do know things are different here in the mountains or compasses read funny at this altitude. lol

I appologize to the good folks of Dobson. I have been to Dobson. We played there last year and I do know where it is. No it is not in the dead center middle of the state but it is more toward the middle of the state than BRCC which is what I meant.

But seriously I think BRCC is a solid program. Please support us if you live in the area. There are pencil pushers around here that are out to shut down athletics at BRCC. You know the type, there kids didn't play sports or they don't have kids.

Braves, the movement to split WNC off and form the 51st state is alive and well.

Great post. I am really glad the program has continued. It has given quite a few kids in the mountains a shot at continuing their education as well as playing a few more years.

You're right it is further east than BRCC! Glad to hear they got a new coach. I also heard there were a few new teams in the conference this season, is that right? Any chance kids get to continue their education and playing sports to boot should be pushed in my opinion. I don't understand why people don't want sports around. I've never understood it. But it happens more often than people would think. Reading the "Local newspaper bias" thread shows how clueless most media and people in general are about baseball, and most are anti-athletics in a whole. I think they must've been picked on by athletes back in the day or something. :)

As for Snappy's, too greasy for me. I prefer some BBQ myself!

Big Fan of BRCC Baseball!! I am so happy the program will continue and is THRIVING!

I am also a big fan of Coach Towe. That said I have met the new coach and he seems like a great guy. I have talked to quite a few parents and they like him, and say their boys are doing well under him. I was able to watch them play a few times this fall, and hope to get to a few games this spring. I think they will be a contender in region X!

BRCC is KNOWN for it's academics. While there are some "cake" classes, if you want to go on, you will be qualified and ready with core courses, which are guarenteed to transfer within the UNC system as well as most other colleges and universities. Watch out for any "cake" classes, but many will transfer as electives, depending on your major.

    Good Luck Bears!
