You probably know more about that than I, Braves (What else is new?).

However, the sketchy report from California is that he and his girlfriend (a former softball All-American) co-coached an 8-11-year-old softball team. Evidently, softball was low on most of the players' list of priorities; except during the frequent, coordinated cheering sessions in the dugout. It sounds like they had the cheering part down pretty well. If only the on the field stuff hadn't kept getting in the way.

The "season"...such as it was... just concluded. No one seems to know the won-lost record; but, it sounds like a good time was had by all anyway.

Yep..that is the experience I had heard. Perhaps I can get Woody to post in the softball forum now that he is an expert in that area. I know he will be home soon, so I'll twist his arm a little

Thought I would drop by and give an update on some of the Charlotte area players up at UNC Asheville now that the fall scrimmages are over.

Ben Buchanan, SR, RHP, Matthews; looked dominating at times this fall during the scrimmages. If he brings it like that during the season he is ready to step in and be a major factor in the teams success.

Justin Shumer, SO, INF/RHP, Charlotte; looked really good during the fall both hitting and pitching. Reported was hitting 90+ off the bump on a regular basis. Ended the fall with a, I believe, groin pull but should be ready for the spring.

Elliot Arrington, SR, INF, Charlotte; looked good hitting and defensively during the fall. Hit with a lot of power. Appears set for an excellent senior campaign.

Michael Bogart, JR, RHP, Gastonia; also looked good pitching this fall. Had a very good breaking ball. If he adds a couple of MPH to his fast ball, he will be very hard to hit.

Graham Baughn, SR, RHP, Charlotte; was hurt during fall and rehabbing. Started throwing right at the end of fall practice and should be ready for Spring.

Brett Robinson, SR, INF/OF, Charlotte; hit well at times during the fall but appeared slowed by injuries. Would expect him to be ready for Spring.

Several Charlotte area Freshmen also looked good during the fall scrimmages but I’ll pass on reporting on them until they show they can crack the lineup and do it during the regular season.

Very glad to see the UNC-A report. Man, there are some terrific area guys on that team! Hard to believe the seniors are seniors!

Anything on Catlin Carter from Ragsdale. He joined up just as JK Whited left. Cat doesn't have the highest velocity but he really knows how to pitch. I hope he does well there.

There were several freshmen that looked good this fall, with a couple from the Charlotte area playing very well. Catlin was one of the freshmen that looked good. Actually, I thought he had very good velocity off the mound for a freshman and, even though he plays MIF, I found myself thinking P may be his best position.

I heard from one of the coaches that they felt this may be their best freshman class ever, although it didn't hurt that the school increased it's commitment to baseball by increasing the number of scholarships they can give.

    former CCS players

Charlotte Christian has been blessed to have a ton of players over the years move on to college and even professional baseball. Greg Simmons really prepared his players well while they were there which I think has a lot to do with success at the collegiate and professional level.

When I say Charlotte, I use the term to encompass the greater Charlotte area. Based on this the freshmen from the Charlotte area on the UNCA roster are:

    Michael Vaughn – Cornelius, NC
    Danny Baatz – Matthews, NC
    Billy Enright – Charlotte, NC
    Alex Loftin – Denver, NC

(Enright & Loftin are redshirt FR)
