    Thanks

I hope things will change for the better as friends. Our wives still talk even at the ballfield as well as our daughters. I am hoping that with his team moving up and us staying down at least through the spring, maybe things will pan out. I have even tried to network to help him find players for next season. All is not lost, the parents still talk as well as a former assistant coach. I could care less about me, just want my DD happy again after so much hurt. I feel like she is coming around with our present bunch. Only time will tell the rest. I am just sick of the drama of who's leaving, who's staying, who combined with who, and so on, etc. Have a great and safe Thanksgiving!

I love this thread! It is very helpful to mend friendships because we all read what former coaches, players, and parents all put on here. Hopefully everyone will at least accept what has happened to them in the past as a true blessing and move on to inspire others to not make the same mistakes.

    Luke..... avoid the dark side

    Great posts by all.....

We have shared several incidents that obviously has negative results...
Thank God that these are not the norm and for the most part isolated incidents.

This stresses the importance of interviewing the travel ball coach before you commit. Allowing emotions to control a decision, can often put you on the road to failure.

Think of all the positive choices kids have made over the last few years.
NC / SC travel ball is at an all time high, with our kids reaping the rewards because most of these coaches are preparing them for the next step.

If I was to compile a list of the names of the NC travel ball coaches, who have been successful and who truely create an atmosphere where all can learn and grow within this team game, ( I'm not gonna, cause I am afraid I will miss someone) they all display several attributes...

    PASSION FOR THE SPORT
    LISTEN WELL
    THEY OFFER OPPORTUNITIES, NOT OBLIGATIONS
THEY COACH THE KID, NOT THE ATHLETE
THEIR EGO"S DO NOT DETERMINE AN OUTCOME OR DECISION

We are in the middle of the travel ball silly season right now, when everyone is positioning themselves for next spring... There are allot of good choices out there...look for signs to recognize them.

    Happy Holidays !!

    Good luck

As I stated earlier in a post I learned a great deal over the past few years that I hope will make me a better person. Main thing for all of us to remember, softball is a game! A way to have fun, to get rid of the pressures of school, work, family issues, and other troubles. It is not meant to be a life changing event but can assist many kids in getting help for college if that is what they seek. Help each other, don't worry about what organization or team a kid plays for, help them, U will benefit 10 fold! Behind the sceens talk and gossip will kill you and hurt others, forget it! Enjoy! Sounds like U have tried hard to fix the past, that is all U can do! LOL Happy Thanksgiving to ALL

    Great post as usual...

Abbey fan's post : This man has done everything in his power to help these ladies on and off the field. I have seen improvements in a lot of his players, parents, and coaches. He truly does care about the girls! THANKS!!!!

Abbey Fan is the real deal for sure!! A class act, up and above others!
Abbey I must say one thing though, "remember, softball is a game! A way to have fun, to get rid of the pressures of school, work, family issues, and other troubles." Have you seen most parents at games, Ha Ha, they aren't relaxed or pressure free, Ha Ha, especially the pitchers parents! LOL
We all have learned a lot through the years!
Some of us learned the hard way! The best thing I have learned is that life is WAAAAYYYYY too short to let every little irritation bug you, save that for the BIG stuff! Granted it took me almost dying 2 years ago to figure this out, but I got it! LOL
If we hadn't had the bad experiences, then we wouldn't know that the good ones, were that good! If we hadn't had the bad experiences we wouldn't have learned what we learned! I feel that we learn something from every experience good or bad! I say make the best decisions you can and try to learn something from each experience! That is all you can do, really!

Yeah...but it sure is nice to learn from other people's bad experiences from reading about them on the board. One less bad experience for me is greatly appreciated

    Learning from everyone on TBR

I just want to say thanks to everyone opinion on this subject. Like I said before I coached for many years and being in the stands for the 2 years I've learned alot about myself just from reading all of what ya'll say. I know for a fact that I'm just as guility as the next coach on some of the things I've done, and as a parents in the stands now I'm just as guility as the next person for some things I've done there also. So with that said I just like to say I'm sorry to anyone that I might have offended. Its been a big learning experience for me this year, so for me my New Years is just to keep my mouth closed and that will start today. Abbey you are so right the gossip and rumors have got to stop, because that only effects the players and there teams. They will drive them apart.

I hope everyone on this board has a Happy and safe Thanksgiving.

    Joe

Let us all know how this works for you and if you are successful! Because starting with me, some of us could use some lessons on how to achieve, what you speak of! LOL I would say I am sorry for all the things I had done too, but I am not sorry for some of them! LOL
But then the stands would be so quiet and the umpires probably would not be able to concentrate on their job and the coaches couldn't possibly coach without all the help from the fans/parents! Oh snap, maybe this is the fields that AbbeyFan was talking about where the game is fun and takes away your pressures from school/work/family issues and other troubles! LOL

    Joe is a great guy....

    Joe,

I remember the old "rec" days from St. Stephens vs Startown....LOL. Now that was fun! Even though we have been on seperate ends of the backstop, you have ALWAYS been nice to my DD on and off the field. Even in middle school games when you knew she was the only one trying hard for us, you kept it fun for her. She said you even high fived her after a couple hits. I look forward to seeing you and Julia in the spring during school ball again. Softball in Catawba county wouldn't be what it is now without you and your family. The countless hours on Springs road doing fundraisers and molding those young ladies into top notch players should be what you are known for. Have a great Thanksgiving Coach Wakefield!
