Early Predictions? I know Watauga has at least 1 game left...(i hope 2)...but what are your thoughts for next year.....This will be the last year of the NW4A.

    Just thinking...

    1-EB
    2-ACR
    3-Watauga
    4-AC
    5-Freedom
    6-South
    7-McDowell

After 1-2 the rest of the teams could beat up on each other.....significant drop-off after Reynolds.

If the state allows, this was the last year of the NW4a. I know EB and FHS are applying for emergency reclassification. EB will have the numbers of a 2A school and Freedom will have the numbers of a 3A school, we'll see what comes of it but people at these two schools are hoping to be somewhere else next year.

I had not heard this........would there only be 5 schools in the "residual" NW4A then?

I dont know how you would move the other folks around considering everything will change for sure in 2009.

Not sure what they would do, they may not even consider it unless they think that a 5 team leauge is good enough. We are just hoping it would work out, Freedom was the largest NW4a school last year and the smallest this season. EB will loose about 900 kids or so and be in the 2a range. So why not try?? They could let EB go to 3A for one year and Freedom to 3A, move Patton in the NW Conf. and have a NW 4a/3a conference for one year. Draughn could replace Patton in the CVAC for a year. Not sure...

It would be shocking if East Burke and Freedom would be granted a reclassification with the new realingement being worked on now. They will most likley just have to stay where they are until the new conferances are formulated.

I would imagine that all JRs and SRs would be allowed to stay where they are so it really should not affect athletics.....but I may be way off on that assumption.

There's no telling what may happen when it comes to the NCHSAA but I would keep Freedom and East Burke where they are since there is only one year left before actual realignment.

I'm sure the school board will make the EB athletes go to Draughn, even though they let all the Freedom athletes that wanted to stay at Freedom, stay. Just because that's the way things are done in Burke County.

Make sure you know everything first, not all of the "athletes" stayed at Freedom, some got to go to Patton- ( entire baseball team) That was basically what started the whole thing. When they let the baseball team do it, they had to let anyone else do it. And by allowing Patton/Freedom kids to attend where they wanted, it makes it tough to not allow Draughn/EB kids to do the same.

The school board will more than likely get the process done a little quicker this time though. I doubt they want the same "football" issue to come up again.
