this is ridicilous- i think we should combine mcdowell, freedom and east burke and that would equal the mecklinburg districts.
i still dont understand how south meck forfeits all and indy keeps playing- west charlotte wont be made to forfeit either- the two prominent fball schools wont be kicked out but a cinderella team that was having a great yr gets disqualified? not supporting ineligible players but one shouldnt be favored over the others. i dont have a dog in the fight but just seems like theres alot going on all of a sudden

There is no reasonable explanation in comparing the ineligible players. The South Meck student did everything above board and his family were led to believe everything was correct. They were not trying to do anything underhanded.

In the other scenarios, it appears that the players and their families were trying to circumvent the rules in a dishonest manner. I don't know how one can expect a school or the coach to spend resources to verify everyone's "integrity", but the players that participate in a clearly dishonest transfer should be punished...but not the team.

In the case of the SM incident, IMO, the school should be fined in their dereliction, but the player and the team did not play a role in an intentional disregard for the rules.

It does not take a doctorate to see the hypocracy in the rulings between the SM incident and the other two schools.

Coach Biggerstaff quoted it correctly last week when he stated Charlotte Allstar Team. It's time that NCHSAA make the penalties stiff on schools and/or players that intentionally try to cheat the system. Set penalties like the NCAA uses in which they would not be allowed to participate for several years if they were caught using inelligible players. It's time the playing field was leveled.

South Meck's was an error committed by the school. They didn't do what they were supposed to do and the kid got to play as a result of it. The Independence and West Charlotte situations are based on the player lying to the school. The schools in both cases did everything exactly the way they were supposed to, but if a kid is going to lie there's not really anything they can do about it.

I know that on the surface the South Meck situation seems like they got hosed, especially since Independence was allowed to keep playing. But there's more to the South Meck situation than what's been reported and it was a pretty clear cut case of the school itself actually doing something wrong.

I agree overall with what you posted but I dont think that South Meck did anything wrong. I would like to think that it was simply an oversight. The kid and the school got punished because of a case where nobody thought they were doing anything wrong IMO.

Exactly, while the other cases were committed by the student. My point is if the family involved at SM were told that they needed a legal guardian transfer, they would have done so. The other cases were clearly to cheat the system.

But which one had to pay the higher price? The penalties just doesn't seem to fit.

Parents need to speak out! This is not just happening in football but other sports as well. Football gets the most publicity so the issue is finally coming to light as unfair and the system needs to take a strong hand against ineligible players. If they dont what message are they sending to the kids at CMS? And the parents are usually the ones that get the false address is false guardianship but its the kids that out and play hard and practice that are getting punished. Parents who manipulate the system ought to be ashamed. But your right , if caught, they should not be allowed to play sports at CMS again. Maybe parents will think twice about the consequences their kid will face before they break the rules. The thing is ,its been too easy, and if they or write the Charlotte Observer. Thats the only way to get a message that parents are fed up!
