to the epidemic that seems to be plaguing CMS sports teams regarding ineligible players? Should an entire team suffer? Im guessing there are more than just in football.
    1. Show more credentials that prove one ot two addresses
    2. Prove guardianship
    3. Sit out for a year of sports unless you can prove one address and complete turnover of guardianship
    4. Coaches cannot coach players on more than one team...including travel. (they can coach just not the same players)
    5. ADs and registrars recheck players eligibility randomly through out the year
    6. Everything documented including practices, money, team changes, and if any player is not living in the school zone but has a legal transfer approved by the board of Education with all documents required, , the team will be made aware of this and that the player is 100 percent approved.

nchsaa should require eligiblity checks on 8/15 of every year prior to the first game and then again beginning on 10/1 to be turned in no later than 10/15 certifying eligibility. parents and players who move into the district must sign affadavit certifying that their addresses etc are correct(affadavits carry a penalty of perjury). if a player is found ineligible then the school found gulity is either inelgible for playoffs this year and next or maybe play no non-conference games the next year.this must be dealt with in a pre-emptive manner imo

Have some opinions/facts on your list, rockdog, and obviously you have taken some time and it is a good list, and my numbering corresponds to your numbers.

    1. Normally done when a student registers at a school. 99.9% of the time this is done in the office when the student switches schools. If a student is going from feeder school to feeder school, then the process is only done once, and that would be in kindergarten. Example: a student begins in kindergarten and registers at Valley Springs elementary in Buncombe county. When they go to middle school, their records transfer to Valley Springs Middle. When they go to HS, their records transfer to TC Roberson. Now, when/if a student switches schools, whether it be a family move or what goes on in Charlotte with the choice, normally a power bill or the like is required to register at the school. I don't see why someone couldn't be required to bring 2 forms of proof of address when switching schools, but it would need to get out there so folks would know.
    2. Once again, done at kindergarten registration or upon filling out the new paperwork when switching schools. If there is a divorce, that paperwork needs to be presented too.
    3. Guardianship paperwork should be on file in cumulative records if this has happened. It should have a court date and the official seal of the court for custody, and a lawyer signiture/seal if guardianship has changed. Ths one should be fairly easy to prove, but your penalty is harsh or would need graduated levels depending on the severity IMO. Some parents, like the South Meck case, tried to do the right thing but missed an additional form or two that would have made things official. Now the Indy kid, he should pay the maximum price, IMO for flat out lying.
    4. Have no problem with the travel teams, but many small schools have trouble filling out their coaching staffs, which would probably mean that a coach would have coach the same child more than once simply because of a number crunch.
    5. IMO, this should be AD's job only. Registrars (or data managers now) have WAY too much on their plates to have to double check this. AD's can be given the rights to the NCWise system that would make checking this stuff a breeze.
    6. Knowing what I know, I would say that the majority of that is documented, some SIGNIFICANTLY better than others.

PS, and you are correct, it happens in more than just football. Good list. Hope I didn't insult you with my comments. If I did, I sure didn't mean it.

Not at all. I appreciate your response. The only thng that needs more criteria is the coaching a player on more than two teams. An example there is a high school coach that coaches about 6 of his players on a travel baseball team. He travels with them and coached them all summer and into fall. Needless to say , most of them also play the premier positions on the high school team too. It would seem in the best interest of the high school to not allow this.
I hope that CMS gets this figured out and that people will voice their concerns based on the facts as you have. Thanks for the good input.
