Sort of like a homecoming for Miller and a fast track for Maybin to be a fulltime player in Florida. Hope to see them both play next year.

This is a great move for both teams...and a great opportunity for Cameron and Andrew. As Stretchy said, fast track for both of 'em.

I'm not sure if this trade is official yet, but if it does go through, it's a blockbuster. I was certainly hoping to watch Cameron and Andrew play for the Tigers, but now I'll have to root for them on the Marlins.

This gives the Tigers two young proven ML players that will not only help them immediately, but for 10-12 years to come.

Cabrera replaces Inge at 3B (huge upgrade at the plate) and Dontrelle slips into a starting pitcher spot.

The Tiger's starting rotation now looks like this: Verlander, Willis, Rogers, Bonderman, and Robertson. Not bad. Let's hope they all stay healthy!

The Tiger's lineup looks like this: CF Granderson, 2b Polonco, 3b Cabrera, RF Ordonez, DH Sheffield, 1B Guillen, C Rodriguez, LF Perez, SS Renteria - Wow!

Great winter for the Tigers so far.

    Please expand.....

Braves, in your mind, what does each team get that is an improvement from where they're at....particularly the Tigers? I'm curious as to your perspective. As for me, this trade leaves me scratching my head a bit. I don't see the Tigers better off for what they did. Maybin is one of the best prospects around and Miller ain't a bad bet at pitcher, either. Sounds like they traded away their future....after such a good season, too. In my mind, with a season under their belt, I figured Maybin and Miller would propel the Tigers to the ALCS next season.

Am I missing something???? You guys are better baseball minds than I am. I'm just not sold on Willis and Cabrera....

    Say What?

I have to agree with DDD....I may be wrong as well. It won't be the first time, but I don't get this at all. Sounds to me like the Tigers just screwed up BIG TIME! Reminds me of how they got rid of Ernie Harwell after all he did for them. :bigcry:

First, for the Tigers they are getting two young, exciting proven stars. Both Willis and Cabrera aren't even close to reaching their prime. They both have been All Stars in the major leagues and should continue for many years to come. Some managers have said that Cabrera has the potential to be one of the most exciting players in the league.

For the Marlins, they are getting two young, exciting unproven talents in the league. They are hoping that one day Maybin and Miller can reach the success that Willis and Cabrera have achieved. It was apparent that the Marlins could not afford to pay those players, so the quality of talent and potential they received in the trade was a great move for them.....until they become successful and it becomes contract time. But it will be years before they will have to be concerned with that.

What I find startling is not the trade by the Tigers, it was a great move on their part, but the fact that the Yankees did not approach this deal. To me it's another example of why Dombrowski with Detroit is one of the best.

I'd like to remind everybody that it was just a few years ago that the Tigers were the "pit" of baseball. It was a joke! And now they are becoming an elite team. A team that players are wanting to join. I'm sure the Tigers hated to trade their two best prospects, but what they received in return were not prospects but bonafide all stars...and young one's at that.

    I'll defer....

I'll defer to the baseball minds of TBR on this one....and Braves logic makes good sense. Only time will tell.

Dang, I just feel like the Tigers gave up their future! Heck, they gave up 7 top prospects! I'll give you that Cabrera is stong at the plate, but I don't think the Marlins get everyone's "A" pitching game, either. I mean, who gets juiced up to pitch to the Marlins???
(Sorry, MarlinFan, I still not much for expansion teams!)

And, I'm just not sold on Willis, anymore. He was awesome for two seasons, but seems to have gone off into the "MLB Land of Contentment." Maybe he'll do great in Detroit. I'm AM going to miss seeing him bat...

Time will tell, but right away, how could you not like this deal if you are a Tigers fan? You are getting one of the best hitters in baseball and he is only 24 years old. Compare his numbers to A-Rod's through their first 720 games: (found on espn.com)

    Rodriguez Cabrera
    Avg. .311 .313
    Hits 892 842
    HR 169 138
    RBIs 533 523

Imagine the kind of numbers he can put up know with guys in the lineup who can protect him? Up until last season Willis was one of the top LHP in baseball. In Detroit, he won't be pressured with being the ace of the staff. I look for him to regain his form.

Sure, Maybin may end up being an all-star year in and year out, but Cabrera is already at that level and he will be for years to come. This is a what have you done for me lately business, and the Tigers can and will win now with this lineup and rotation. At the end of the day, thats what its all about.
