Senator George Mitchell and the Commissioner's Office of Major League Baseball have released the findings of the Mitchell Report on performance enhancing substance abuse (as well as other controlled substances) in Major League Baseball.

Here's the link to mlb.com's webpage with the report: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/mitchell/index.jsp

I would hope that most people (whom I am sure, unfortunately may not) will, in fact, read the report before passing judgement on the players named in the report. There are many names of prominent players, current and past, that are mentioned in the report. While I will not state the names at this time, you can read the report yourself and make an informed decision regarding the scope of the report in its entirity.

Use this forum to state some initial thoughts on this report that is shaking up baseball like no other chain of events since the "Black Sox" Scandal of the early 20th Century.

Bonds & Clemens = bad apples

I spent over 2 hrs reading all 409 pages today at the office and all I can say is if it is all true then those players will forever be tainted and IF Clemens is guilty then he should be treated the same way that Bonds has been treated in the media and the world of public opinion!!! These BIG name players are our kids role models and kids have been and will be hurt by what these guys have done. What a shame to have to cheat to try and be the best. I am not an angel :innocent: but come on guys.

I was wondering when someone would start this thread. I read most of the report. It's hard to get all the evidence you need without having the authority for subpeonas. However the guys that put this together are professional investigators, not reporters. Personally I need to know more before I reach an opinion. Although I don't think anyone can deny that something was going on.

Overall, I hate this has happened to the game.

Once these players were named, their reputation will be tarnished forever. I believe it was political muckraking at its finest.

Because there was no proof, only hearsay, and they made their conclusions based on that, then the report was not much more informational than anyone's opinion on here.

Baseball felt the heat from Congress to do something. They selected the former majority leader to head up the committee and they gave him no power to do his job. Baseball was able to appease Congress, yet were able to dodge arrows with the stewards of the game.

Quite frankly, I am appalled they mentioned names at all...and Brian Roberts should sue the commissioners of this report. I'm not sure which produced better news. The Mitchell Commission or the National Enquirer. They both based their stories from 3rd parties.

Good lord, bringing up Benito Santiago, Len Dykstra and Ty Cobb (sarcasm) as users of an illegal substance served no purpose in cleaning up the mess and going forward. They're already gone!

I did find it interesting there was no mention of Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa or Raphiel Palmiero..hmmm...I guess they are clean!

This report has solved nothing and produced nothing but hot air and tarnished names. Only thing it accomplished was to prevent Congress from getting involved....and man, I don't want to see a bunch of political hacks do that.

Look at it this way. You go to the sewer plant you see something that looks like a Babe Ruth on the ground. What is it? Flies are attached to both. We hold everyone to standards. Let's look at others track, football, wrestling, basketball and others. Shortcut to the money and the extender.:detective::detective::detective::detective:

If I made a prediction, I predict this won't make a dent in the game. Sure, the traditionalist won't like it (I include myself as one of them), but the overall fans will not be deterred in going to games because of this.

It will hurt certain players, but it won't hurt attendance. But that is because Major League Sports is no longer just a sport, but entertainment

Agree. Most know or have had thoughts. It will be what is done about it that will have lasting effects.

    THE GAME

Maybe this is a good thing because it proves that we all truly love the game and we don't lock ourselves into following the game just because of a certain player or players. I know that for me it is really about the game and that is why I can enjoy a little league game as much as a major league game. THE GAME is bigger than any player!!!!
