My dd has had this problem. When she pitches the straps from her glove whip around and hit the back of her leg. When shes done pitching the back of her front leg is beet red like she's taken 50 lashes. Have cutoff strings and tried different gloves and they all do it. Maybe the new glove is stiff and her hitting her leg is what's hurting. Just an idea.

    Common problem with 'slappers'

Your DD is obviously a 'slapper'. The new glove will hurt her thigh until its broken in. She can wear some sort of compression sleeve on her thigh for a while. This will probably protect it enough while the new glove is being 'trained'. The leg slap is controversial among pitching coaches. On the whole it would probably be better to adjust mechanics to minimize it as anything that expends energy not directly related to the power line is a waste. On the other hand, many very successful D1 pitchers are slappers.

This is a mechanical problem within her windup....
Besides the obvious pain, she will never be at full potentail as related to speed and accuracy...That needs to be corrected immediately.

"On the other hand, many very successful D1 pitchers are slappers."
Dukedog... Correct statement.....It is taking away power...
While there are some collegiate pitchers still doing this, there are none at the elite level. Any pitching coach that has a true understanding of mechanics is not teaching this......

Have seen many girls doing this.

What you guys are saying makes sense but I haven't seen this addressed at any clinics, lessons or videos etc.. This gives me something new to start asking pitching coaches about. My daughter does this and I have never tried to have it corrected.

Glove side arm mechanics for softball pitchers are the same as baseball.
Glove hand leads the body as it transfers power towards the target.

    Anything else reduces power!!!

Do kids do it, yes... They use it for balance and timing, but it detracts from what can be their maximum potentail.

A key focus of every pitching coach should emphasize movement as it relates to sequencing.

This can be explained as movement of the body and its parts in a certain order to achieve a maximum transfer of power with minimal effort.
The old theory of the shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line holds true here. All parts of the body should be driving towards the catchers mitt... Any body movement that moves out of this alignment, is taking away power... clear and simple.

How many baseball pitchers throw their arm out of the powerline during their delivery....??? None of the good ones.....

I hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings, but if your pitching coach is not identifying this as a serious flaw.... I would ask them why????

    This is my intention!

Not hurting my feelings at all. One coach we have seen has developed some very good players that play D1 and some current D1 commitments and it hasn't been addressed. You can bet your check I am going to ask about it! I appreciate ya'll bringing my attention to it.
