    Update on Glaxo Info

    Big Dan,

I saw the newspaper article regarding the Wakefield vs. McDowell game. A couple of updates/info on Wakefield.

Update: Wakefield ended up defeating Garner 58-44 in the finals in a game that featured defense.

Info: The 6'2" junior has offers from at least one SoCon team, a couple of other teams, and is being recruited by several SoCon and CAA teams.

Info: The 6'5" sophomore has decided to play volleyball in college and has asked schools to not recruit her for basketball.

Thanks for the updates...I had to get back to McDowell County yesterday after the game ended and never had a chance to update anything on here. I was impressed by both girls from Wakefield. Evans is definitely good enough to be SOCON material.

I feel confident the Lady Titans will take what happened this weekend and become a better team because of it. We start conference play Wednesday against Alexander Central.

The last time McDowell lost three in a row was January and February of 1997 when the Lady Titans dropped consecutive games to T.C. Roberson, Freedom and Watauga.

    Bojangles Shootout

Anytime you loose 3 in a row it's tough, but we could've stayed home and not had the competition that we played in Charlotte. All three games had the playoff atmosphere you want your team to face before conference. We sa three very tough teams in West Charlotte, Butler, and Providence Day. We played well at times and poor at times.

Three games in three days is very tough on you physically and mentally, we played Thursday @ 8:00pm, Friday @ 2:30pm, and Saturday @ 9:30am.

This was by far the best tourney we have ever attended and it's very well ran, they feed you, put you up in a nice hotel, and give your team gifts when it's over.

We're excited to begin conference play and looking forward to putting what we learned against those teams to work in conference play.

    Good luck to all

One more thing- no one in our area can or should fuss about our officiating.. The officials had no affect on whether we won or lost, but they were not good any of the three games. Especially the Saturday morning game.. One guy does softball in the Charlotte area and he's the "pretty boy" that wants to be seen, our kids heard them before the game betting that we would loose by 50 pts or more. You couldn't "talk" to them at all, just hope no one gets these guys in the playoffs and with the change in the rule, the first two rounds use their local booking agent someone will see them.

    Thank your local officials!!!!!

I'm glad you said something about the officials. My daughter plays for FTF and we aren't very good but the ref's have sucked every single game. Where do they find these JOKES? I know its not easy being a REF but dang. :11:

In 1997 the L Titans were lead by Holly Smith, Tasha Jackson and Carrie Brewer(who is now Brian Franklins wife). They averaged between 10-12 points apiece. How do they compare to Kurie, Kelsea and Ebonique?????That '97 team also had a good group of soph's(just like this years team), including Jennifer Brooks, Aletha Corpening, Kaysie Silver and Aimee Brewer. Those soph lead the Lady Titans to consuctive State Title Games in 1998 AND 1999. Is there a pattern here??? The biggest difference my lie in the coach. Brian is going to be a good coach but he is not Coach Silver. The inexperience in a high profile position like the Lady Titans does show. Great players can overcome some of that then reality does set in. I am all for the Lady Titans.... but our school board does need a major overhaul.
